Toddler Beds?

Anyone there yet? We got Dorothy a twin sized bed. We were thinking of moving Derek to her old toddler bed and putting Daniel in the crib. Anyone else starting to convert to a toddler bed yet?

NO! When did you move your other kids? We moved Lexi at 14-15 months and it was a disaster! The reason we moved her was to put Zayne in the crib but I will never do that again. Once out of the crib Lexi refused to sleep in her own bed. She slept in her bed for about 6 weeks and was with us ever since. We FINALLY are starting to get her back into her own room and her own bed (which involved me buying her another, new toddler bed)

So long story short, Zayne will be in his crib until he HAS to move to a toddler bed (ie climbing out or too big for the crib!) LOL

No Way Jose! I didn't move DS until he was about 2.5 and that may have been too early. My girls are in those cribs for the long haul. I will buy crib tents if needed. The girls do not need any freedom at night.

NOPE! Evan loves his crib sleeps well in it and I'm not about to rock that boat. I think the bars to keep him in are totally needed he'd be ALL over his room w/o the confinement and I'm in no rush to have to worry about what he's doing. Even if he's crying as long as he's in the ccrib he's safe. And he moves all over at night he'd fall out of a bed constantly which would wake him up. I'm in no rush we get 11-12 solid hours of sleep a night and a 2-3 hour nap a day no fixing what isn't broken here LOL

Yes/no. So when we move into the new house (in 2 weeks) we are going to transition Sophia out of our bed and into her own room. I know she's fine sleeping in a bed bed because she sleeps in ours all night, but I'm still not comfortable with putting her in the toddler bed. So we plan on putting the mattress on the floor and making that her bed.
She never liked the crib anyway, so I'm sure it will be fine.

NO WAY!!!!!! Even though we have a gate upstairs, Jack would totally TRASH his room if not confined to his crib. He loves pulling things from drawers so I envision myself waking up to his nebulizer out and him curled up in a pile of clothing.

Yeah, I think my other 3 were closer to 2.5. Guess we will have 2 cribs in there for a while.

No way is Taine ready for a toddler bed, I can just imagine him running amuck in his room!

Ya I wish I could trust Evan but he'd be ripping his room apart or freaking out. In his crib he seems to get that it means sleep and that's a wonderful thing. He also seems to enjoy just playing in there sometimes, another wonderful thing. But with freedom to get out omg he'd be trashing the place LOL

Nope not there yet. She just started sleeping in her crib after co-sleeping with us for 12 months. She sleeps great in it, I don't want to convert her to a toddler bed and throw things off until she can either get out of the crib or I think she is ready for one. I much rather her room stay clean also, I don't need to wake up and find that she got into her dresser drawers and pulled everything out.

Definitely not ready yet! I'm thinking we'll wait until about 2.5 like we did with our older kids. That leaves us in quite the position with the baby because we have NO room for another crib, so I guess this baby will be in a pack and play in our room for his/her first 9 months?

no chance.

we moved Paxton to a twin bed at 18 months. it worked well for him. we did it in september before Hayden was born so he would have time to adjust. I just didnt want to buy another crib in all honesty. i think toddler beds are kind of a waste. we had a twin bed here all set up and we bought a bed rail for it and he loved it from day one. hes never fallen out (and the kid is all over the place when he sleeps)

so i think with Hayden we will wait alittle longer because we dont need her out of the crib, but when we do switch her it will be into a twin with rails.

I am not sure what your bedroom situation is, but you would be surprised how you can fit two cribs in a room. My girls are in a very small room, but we are able to fit their two cribs together on one wall. It really limits our options with the dresser and such, but we just found a way to combine their dresser and changing table, and that created enough room to make it all function. It isn't optimal and we are discussing rearranging a little bit, but it works for the girls.

There's no way we could put Kamryn in a bed, at this point. She sleeps 11 hours or so in her crib.....so I'm not willing to rock the boat yet, LOL Smile Even if we have baby #2 in the near future, I think we'll be purchasing another crib and keeping kami in hers as long as possible.

You can definitely fit two cribs (or a crib and a pack n play). In our tiny old apartment, we had our queen size, and the two cribs pushed against our bed to make one big bed for cosleeping. It was cramped but we made it work!

That said, there is ZERO chance of us putting the boys in anything buy cribs anytime soon! They would destroy their room and probably find a way to electrocute and or stab each other with something, despite all the babyproofing.

Oh, totally! No matter how much you babyproof, they would find a way to hurt each other, hurt themselves, etc... I know exactly what you mean. Heck, even a little board book becomes a weapon of destruction!

Not sure if anyone still checks on here, but I've run into a bit of a problem. Connor can now get out of his crib for almost 2 weeks now. We've considered either the toddler bed with bumpers or some kind of tent thing over his crib (not sure the exact thing, my brother used on for my nephew). I know many of you were against the use of toddler beds till they were old (so was I) but now Connor has made the decision for me. Anyone else in this boat?

I am so thankful to NOT be in this boat lol Evan loves his crib and stays in it happily. Like will play and chatter to himself for an hour in the morning in there!! I never want to give it up HAHAHA I know others have moved to a toddler bed at 18 months so I'm sure it can be done - probably your best bet if he can get out anyway! Good luck.....I think Evan may be 10 before I let him out of the crib LOL

I would suggest moving him/Conner into his own bed if he is able to scale his cot!

We don't really have a choice, we will start Taine in a bed in the next few months since the next lo is due at the start of november.

We did this with Paxton when I was pregnant with Hayden. We put him straight into a twin bed with bedrails at 18 months. So alittle over 3 months before she was due. He transitioned so smoothly. He loved that I could climb in th bed and read to him, so most nights we would read and then he would go to sleep. Even now he looks at a books before bed, I really think switching him to a big boy bed helped his love of books.. Because I used them as a transition tool. Lol
This time around you couldn't pay me to put Hayden in a bed. She's too crazy. She climbed out of her crib once.. But she scared herself so bad that she hasn't tried since. She's going to be in her crib as long as physically possible.

Walmart sells crib tents. That is what we will use if the girls attempt to climb out of their crib. With twins, I will not consider a toddler bed for at least another year. Babyproofing for two is a serious challenge. The safer I can keep them at night, the more relaxed I will feel with sleeping without worrying as much.

I have a feeling that Harley won't be getting into one till shes 2. She didn't start using her crib till she was 1 bc of co-sleeping. Plus I feel more comfortable knowing shes in the crib not getting into things when she gets up before we do.

Trust me I would have loved if Connor stayed in his crib forever! We converted our crib into a toddler bed and purchased a bumper - rail thingie. Gonna see how it goes tonight!

Steph- Good luck! I hope Connor likes his new bed!

We transitioned Sophia into her very own queen size bed 4 weeks ago and she's slept like an angel every since! Possibly the easiest transition ever.

Queen Size!! I'm jealous. I don't even have a queen size bed. We want one tho but we can't afford one so were stuck with a full size.

We moved DS1 at 18 months to a full size bed and he loved it. He was crawling out of the crib and I don't think they made tents then. I think after we move later this summer we will transition DS2 to a toddler bed so the new baby can have his crib.

We didn't move DS1 until he was about 2.5 and will probably do the same with Quinton! I like him being stuck in his crib, lol. Smile
