Starting solid foods- sitting up first?

Quick feeding question:

Does your LO need to be able to sit up on their own before starting solids? Or, just be able to hold head up with good neck control?

Not sure, but Daniel still has a very strong tongue thrust reflex. Everything comes right back out of his mouth.

Well, they recommend that they are able to sit up before you start them but its ultimately a judgement call by you. Neck control is important and the thrust reflex is the biggest issue.

Michael is not quite sitting all by himself yet (not for long anyways) and we've been doing solids for a few weeks now per recommendation of the pediatrician.

I think it's a personal choice, really. For us I want to wait until Daphne is able to sit up on her own with no support.
