Wow, Kim, 12lbs at 6-weeks seems so big to me!! Jonah is 7-weeks & is 9.5lbs! He was 5lb 14oz when we took him home from the hospital though and he's still my little peanut!!

And Jen, I am shocked that you can pump so much!!

I'm glad pumping is better for you Krystal. I had the exact problems with DS when I went back to work. And once someone told me to pump while feeding, it got much better!

BD is awesome now that we are past all the tongue tied issues. It was 4-weeks of pain and then 1-week of re-learning. Now I can feed him anywhere and we can get a great latch! I even fed him in a pizza place today just fine! I pump every morning to have a bottle ready for DH in case I need a boob break in the evenings. If I don't use it, I freeze it. Once I am closer to returning to work I will pump more for a stash. I have about 40oz in the freezer now, but I don't have a deep freezer & I can't store it for more than 3-months.

One issue we have is with the bottle. Jonah gets a bottle at least every other day. But in the past few days I have noticed he only takes an ounce from the bottle (breast milk) from me or DH. He doesn't fuss or anything he just plays with the nipple and eats enough to take the edge off. It's like he knows he will get a breast eventually and just waits for that. I'm afraid he's not liking the bottle any more. It's not a problem now, but when I return to work in April it will be! Should I try different bottles?

Amy, I would definitely try a different bottle. What kind are you using now? Trystan drinks from a bottle when I'm at work and he's with DH or my mom. I use Tommee Tippee bottles, and they're wonderful! Not only does he not have any problems with them, but it hasn't affected his latch or caused any nipple confusion, either! And in regards to the freezing of BM, I thought you could freeze it for up to five months?

nak omg jenn! I wish I could get that much milk when I pump. Everymorning i am lucky if i get 2 oz from one side while emily eats the other. I really need to start pumping the other side more during the day so i can produce enough for when I pump at work. I am just lazy now...but bm is free and good for baby so i want to avoid formula if i can especially sice the similac that i have so many free samples of seems to bind emily up.

Angela, with the formula it also makes them spit up way more when you burp them! Trystan never spits up, unlike my first three formula-fed babies that spewed everywhere when I burped them! On the pumping issue, when T is eating on one side I get about three oz out on the other. It's weird that I really don't pump very much, but he's getting plenty to eat? I know some of you that can pump TONS out all of the time! Jealous!!

Rory was 12lb 12oz at 1 month old.....he's such a big baby. He has a great latch nursing isn't painful at all but he eats all the time still. I pump once a day in the morning and I was getting 4-6oz but lately I've been waking up engorged and getting 8-10oz. I have close to 200oz in the freezer - we have a chest freezer so I just keep stocking it away. I definitely can't go anywhere for any extended period of time w/o my pump which is annoying. I haven't had a clogged duct in a few weeks though so I think I'm past that point, phew!

I can't believe Luke is older than most of the other babies and he is smaller! lol. I weighed him this morning on the wii and he was up to 10 lbs 8 ounces. He is getting there. I think he is going to be tall.

Nursing is going great for us now. Thank goodness. I honestly thought he wasn't going to be able to do it. He gets a paci and now that he has learned to latch it doesn't seem to be a problem. My other two had paci's from the start and it never caused problems.

Evelyn couldn't care less about the paci. I sometimes try to give it to her when she's been fed and I know she just wants to suck. She scrunches up her face and spits it right out.

I am only able to pump about 2-3oz, but I have only been pumping once a day. I need to add in a few more sessions so I can build up a stash.

Carrie, you sound like me. When I'm at work is the only time I pump, and I get about three oz out total when I get a let down. Its ok though, two of those bottles is enough for him to have the next day while I'm at work again!

I'm wondering how much I'm going to have to send with Rory. It's so hard b/c I obviously don't want to send too much, defrosted milk is really only good for a day but I don't want to send too little either! ACK! When I go back to work he gets dropped off at daycare around 7:30 and will have eaten around 7, so I'm thinking 4 bottles around 3-4oz each.....I'm going to send him on a couple test run days prior to me being at work so I'll be close if they need something.

Ok, I finally have a chance to get back on here. Things have taken a turn for the worse with BFing... We had a lousy day last week where I tried to exclusively breastfeed and it ended up in an all-day crying fest. Sometime around the same time (days blend together) Ryan also started crying about half way through a feed. He eats for about 10 minutes and then briefly falls asleep. I weighed him before and after and he gets about 2.5-3 ounces in that time. after a few minutes he wakes up, and starts squirming and grunting. He roots for the nipple but after a few seconds on he will do these high pitched screams and come off. This continues for a while. If I take him off I can distract him quite easily and play with him for a bit, and he seems somewhat happy. But at the end of playtime (maybe 20 minutes tops, sometimes just a few minutes) he wants to eat again. Then the same screaming starts. To me it seems like he is in pain but I don't know.
I took him to the doctor on Monday. She thinks he might have silent reflux and has put him on Zantac. I hate giving it to him but it's worth a try I guess. he's on day 3 and no improvement so far... The other possibility she mentioned was a milk protein allergy. Eliminating all dairy from my diet will be the next thing to try, but its almost impossible. There is so much hidden dairy in everything it's ridiculous. Jessicah I recall your DS had that issue - have things improved with him on formula?

I am still not sure if this is a generally cranky phase and a habit or if he is in pain. He seems in pain with the grunting, high pitched screams and squeals, and he also arches his back like crazy (apparently a sign of reflux). On the other hand when I pick him up and distract him he stops crying quite quickly. I don't know... getting to the end of my rope. But for about the last week or so he's been overall grumpy, very quick to cry, and fussy. He still sleeps ok but even in his sleep he will often grunt, squeal and chatter almost the whole time. I am not sure if he is sleeping or what, but his eyes are closed so I assume he is. He's always been a loud sleeper but this tops it. Of course I get absolutely no sleep at all. I am considering putting him in a separate room and I really wanted him to stay in our room for a few months, but I am getting no sleep.

I truly hope this is just the 6 week growth spurt. I really miss my happy little guy!

ETA: He does the same on the bottle, but he can drink faster from it so the feeding is normally done before he gets upset. But he gets upset right after.
