30 week appointment, I may get my waterbirth :D

I don't usually post about appointments, but this one was exceptional Smile

I met the 6th and final midwife today. I have now met them all. She was great. She actually stopped and chatted with me, the others don't typically do that. It definitely makes you feel like you matter!

I asked again about water births. This hospital will allow you to labor in the tub, but they have a rule against actually delivering the baby in the tub.

She told me "well.. I have an obligation to at least "try" to get you out of the tub *wink wink* but if the baby is born right there that's fine by me!" She said some of the older midwives, one of them is 60, has a hard time with water births due to kneeling on the floor and just the mechanics of her trying to assist. That made me feel really good... hopefully I get the right midwife lol!!! The only down side still is that these are normal shower/bathtub combo's, so definitely not as comfy as a birthing pool but I'm hoping to make it work.

I passed my GTT at 62mg/dL! I was really surprised it was that low. I was 91 last time. My weight is up 15 pounds, which also surprised me because I ate a bowl of cereal, a piece of banana bread, and a slice of pumpkin pie before going in. I was expecting it to be higher.

So all in all, a slightly more exciting than usual appointment!

That's awesome! My L&D facility has an entire floor devoted to natural birth and they have special birthing tubs. I can start there but if I decide to get an epi or anything, I would move to the floor up. That floor also has jacuzzi tubs in most rooms that I can labor in if I want and even deliver. I'm not sure what to do. I'm going to ask my MW about it.

I wasn't sure what was a good number on GTT. I had a 79 she said, and she went on to tell me to be sure to eat enough and frequently so I don't have low blood sugar levels, so that made me think it was pretty low too. Congrats on passing!

That is so cool you get to meet all the midwives. We don't get to do that. Sad

TFS!

I am so so so jealous of that birthing suite!!! Giving birth in a jacuzzi sounds awesome!!! I'm worried a bathtub wont be able to be deep enough for that buoyancy that helps so much.

I actually passed out at work the other morning. It was 4:30 am, my blood pressure was 76 over something not palpable lol. My BP is sooooooooo low in the morning. I had just eaten too. I'm ready for this monkey to be born.

I think it's fabulous that you might just get to have a waterbirth in a hospital! I know they're common for birth centers and homebirths, but (around here at least) a waterbirth in a hospital is unheard of. They have the tubs available to make it sound like they're natural-birth friendly but then they make up all these rules or restrictions so that practically nobody ever gets to use them.

Anyway, I really hope it works out for you!

That's all such great news Carolyn! Congratulations on such a wonderful appt.

I am going to ask about a water birth, but have a feeling my ob is not going to go for that. Guess it doesn't hurt to try.

That is awesome! Glad the MW was so cool about the whole thing. I don't know why more facilities aren't like that. You'd think a happy Mommy makes for a much better delivery which is better for Mommy, baby, and staff.
