Amniotic fluid

I can't tell if I'm leaking fluid or not....

I am at work & don't have access to any pads or fresh undies. Sad My ob's nurse said to put that on when I get home & go to L&D if the pad gets wet. But I'm not going to get home until about 6 tonight.

Anyone know of any tricks, tips, etc to tell....

No idea. Have you not had this before? I have been in a pad since the very beginning b/c I swear I am like a 90 yr old that pees on herself all day. In fact, if I did have leaking I would have no way of knowing. Darn weak bladder - darn pg side effect!

I'm not sure how to tell without going to get tested at the OB.

Go empty your bladder and then stick some dry tissues in your undies. Go back to work and see if you.are still getting wet. If you are then its probably fluid, not urine.

**Lurker** I would try the tissues to see if they get wet. Really only L&D can really check to see if it's your water. Kup!

I work w/ one other women. There's only 2 of our kind here. lol She had some really thin pads so I have put one on. Boots is moving a lot & I'm having some cramping & contractions. Idk, I'm a girl that would give birth in a car b/c I always think things are "false."

I noticed my undies were pretty damp when I got to work this morning. It has not dried up. It's really gross, but I know it's nothing we haven't all probably dealt with.

I may just go in to check. Is that weird? Idk, I may still go for my daily walk. I will KUP.

What happens if you go & it's nothing? You just feel stupid & leave embarrassed?

Its probably a little embarrassing but shouldn't worry about it because you won't be the only one that has done it before. I would go for your walk and then go to the hospital - see if you can get those contractions more regular.

For sure get it checked and do the paper tissue thing as suggested, they will need something to test. I thought I was just having tons of discharge and it appears I am leaking fluid. Better safe than sorry!! Your doctor can do the test too if you don't want to go to L&D. Please KUP!.

I don't think you should feel stupid or embarrassed. All the doctors here took it very seriously even though they weren't sure it was fluid. I don't think anyone would have made me feel stupid about it if it wasn't fluid. The risk to the baby can be high so they take it seriously.

Okay this is a little TMI but it might be helpful...I have found with baby being so big now it's hard to empty my bladder completely. So I will go, and stand up and kind of leak a little, either right away or at least within a few minutes. It can be pretty misleading, I thought it was fluid once. Are you sure you are able to totally empty before getting up?

Don't feel bad about going in though, if you decide to! They won't care, I'm sure they see false alarms all the time!

I try to get my bladder empty before standing. I kind of rock back & forth to try to make sure.

I think I am dry now so I'm guessing it wasn't fluid. I am going to go home & put on some pants that aren't so restricting & put on pad, etc & go about the night. If I feel I'm leaking I will go. I'll kup.

That's what it was like when my water broke. It was just a trickle and I spent 20 minutes lying down with a new pad, got back up, took a shower, woke up my boyfriend and left for the hospital. (Thankfully it was the middle of the night so no traffic on the 10!) Anyway, I hope you got it figured out/checked! Smile

I say if you have concerns get it checked out. You should never feel stupid for being concerned about your baby. I tought I was leaking fluid and called the doctors office and they immediately got me in. So I say if you're still feeling really wet and the pads are getting wet then by all means go in and see. All they can do is send you home or confirm your water has broken.

I didn't go get checked. I think I'm fine & will see if anything out of the ordinary continues.

I felt a gush at 3:45 am and thought it may have been a dream. After I showered, I bent down to kiss my daughter and when I stood up it splashed on the floor. Then I kept filling mini pads while waiting to go to the hospital. Anyway long and short, it did not stop leaking.

Also I lost so much fluid they had to put some back because the cord was being compressed. be careful.

I was so sure it was nothing (just lots and lots of mucusy discharge that came intermittently) but my water had been leaking just a teeny tiny bit for days and baby now shows signs of infection. He will likely have to stay in the nicu for an extra day or two after i go home, and he is on iv antibiotics. Please don't wait and get it checked right away. Not trying to scare you but now I wish had gone and got it checked. I had a checkup the day after I first noticed and the doc didn't think to check because it was mucous and not liquid.

It didn't seem to wet any pads last night. I would feel like a dribble of a little liquid here & there, but not enough to make it to the pad. I was not wet this morning when I woke up either. Not really sure what it is, but it doesn't seem to be substantial. There are no wet pads or gushes.....
