Awake time

Seems we have been so focused on how much sleep our little ones are getting. But I'm curious how long they are staying awake. Finn seems to go average 90 mins between naps but there are times when he gets cranky after being up only an hour (and that includes feeding time!). Two hours is a looong stretch for him and we have to do a lot of low key activity towards the end and will usually end in melt downs if I miss his tired cues.

How long are your little guys and girls staying awake between naps?

Elaina is awake most of the day. I know it sounds crazy! But it is true. I don't have her on a schedule or anything, I just follow her cues and help her to sleep when she looks tired. She is awake, alert, and happy most of the day. If she starts fussing it is a sign I have let her go too long and she will drop to sleep quickly with nursing. She wakes for the day between 8:30-9. Usually right on the dot at 8:30 though haha. She will nap somewhere between 10 and 12 for about 30 minutes. Then she will be up for a long stretch, napping again mid afternoon...often that nap is 1.5-2 hours. Then she will be up for awhile again and nap again one more time somewhere in the 5-6:30 range. Then she is up AGAIN but is down for the night by 9-9:30. She will then sleep straight through to 8:30, though she dream feeds several times (cosleeping). I worry that it is not enough sleep for her. But trying to put her to sleep in the day is an exercise in frustration unless she is ready for it! She is much happier if I let her play, cuddle, go out and about etc. when she's ready for sleep it is easy, no crying or anything. I dunno, I have been stressing about her sleep a lot lately. Everyone comments how alert and happy she is, and then I just think "yeah and she's been awake for four hours!!!" sigh. Whew thanks for the post, I needed to vent about it!

Evelyn is usually awake for 1 1/2 to 2 hours at a time, except at then end of the day. She is usually awake when I get home from work at 4:30 or 5:00 and then stays awake until bedtime at 8:00.

We transitioned from mostly asleep to mostly awake sometime just over 3 months. They now nap (no schedules) instead of getting up for short periods. My boy was up partying all day yesterday (at a twins club BBQ and then with friends at the house) so he slept through the night 10 hours. My girl falls asleep more during the day and can't yet sleep through the night, but her awake periods are hours long and she's very alert.

Trystan is awake most of the day as well. He usually takes 15-30 minute naps every two to three hours, but that's about it. Sometimes if he's really tired, he'll take a one to two hour nap, but it's rare. I don't mind really, as he always sleeps through the night... eight hours every night!

Ryan is on the exact same schedule. He never lasts longer than 1.5-2 hrs except late in the day, but with frequent yawning. Sometimes he is tired after only 1 hr. It doesn't surprise me since he wakes up so often during the night. I'd be tired too!

This is pretty much us too except we go to bed 10-10:30 and get up at 9-9:30. She is pretty much awake all day. Some days she just takes on 2 hour afternoon nap and no others but she is a very sleepy nurser and often gets a five to ten min "rest" out of a nursing session. She does wake up to nurse at night but just enough to roll on her side and pull on my shirt so I wake up and help her latch on. I figure she gets enough sleep at night and doesn't need much during the day.

Vivi has been taking 3 naps a day usually. She's awake for 1.5-2 hours between naps. If it goes much longer than that she fights her sleep because she's so overtired.

J is like clockwork and has to take a nap exactly one hour after he wakes for the day. Then he naps for about 1-2 hours. He then takes about 2-3 30 min cat naps until bed around 9pm.

It was 1.5 hours for a long time, but she is starting to change and sometimes goes for 2-3 hours before her next nap. She take 4-5 30-45 minute naps a day. I go by her cues, but it is somewhat of a routine (as in I can usually guess when she will be ready for her next nap). A couple times in the last few days she slept her 30 minutes and woke up grumpy. I put her back to sleep and she went for another 45 minutes, so maybe longer naps are in our future? She is happy between naps, so I just go with the flow.
