Baby showers - when will they be?

I didn't want to hijack Joy's thread so I started this one.

Are you having a shower?

Who is throwing it?

When will you have it?

Are you registering?

For Corinna I had 4 baby showers - one from work (really more of a going away party), one from my Scottish Country Dancing club, one from church, and one from a friend (with a Flower Fairy Tea Party theme - she did a fabulous job!).

We did register. We have a great local baby store and they were really helpful. It helped us get organized and figure out what we were going to need, especially for getting started on cloth diapering. So even though many people didn't use the registry and even those who did mostly got us the "fun" stuff instead of useful things, it was still really useful for us.

Since we're having another little girl I don't think I'll have any this time. We only need a few things - like more cloth diapers and bibs and maybe a new breast pump - and those aren't the kind of things we're likely to get at a baby shower.

We have enough rearranging to do in our small house - I don't need to worry about more stuff.

Maybe I'll have a little party with girlfriends or something if I feel like it just for fun...

Are you having a shower?I'm not planning anything. If it was a girl I would want one so I can get clothes lol. I imagine I will get one at work. I'm really hoping my MIL does not throw one. Things are strained between us and DH's extended family. A shower would be so awkward and uncomfortable!!

Who is throwing it? n/a

When will you have it? n/a

Are you registering? nope. The only thing we need are some winter clothes in little sizes. We already bought a crib from Craigslist. We have a carseat from Luke. And my sister is giving us a dresser that they no longer need. I would like to try a different sling. I have a moby and a structured carrier. I think I'd like a sling, something easy to breastfeed in when we're at church.

Are you having a shower? Yes

Who is throwing it? I have on by my MIL, one by a coworker and one by my family and two close friends

When will you have it? One in Oct and one in Nov and not sure about the work one

Are you registering? Yes. I did an amazon registry when I found out I was pg and hadn't planned to show anyone. However, my bff and mom convinced me that I needed to make it public. I have less than 30 things on there but its all stuff I would buy myself if I didn't have a shower at all. I think it all adds up to $300 or less.

Are you having a shower?

Probably not, but I have no idea really. I had one with each of my kids, and being that we have girl stuff and boy stuff, and we have almost every baby item we need, I really don't expect a shower. It honestly doesn't matter to me if we have one or not. Where I live, it's much more common to have baby showers after the baby is born. And it's kinda nice that way, because it eliminates the phone calls from 50 different people all wanting to drop by to visit the baby right after the birth. So if no one throws us a shower, we might do an open house after baby arrives, just so that people can all visit in one afternoon and then we can relax. Biggrin

Are you registering?

Nope. The only things we need are a new carseat and a bunch of winter newborn clothes. Since we're team green anyway, people will probably wait until after the baby arrives to buy us gifts.

Are you having a shower? Yes, 2 probably.

Who is throwing it? One by my mom in my hometown and then another at work by my co-workers.

When will you have it? I think early November for the one at home and I'm not sure about my work shower. They typically do one around 36 weeks but maybe they will do it a bit earlier since 36 weeks is Thanksgiving.

Are you registering? Yes, I registered at BRU.

Are you having a shower? Yes!

Who is throwing it? My boyfriend's sister, cousin, and friend.

When will you have it? October 1 (They wanted to do it November 1 originally, but that's WAY too close for comfort!)

Are you registering? I feel super ridiculously uncomfortable with any sort of beg for gifts, but we did: Babies R Us and Amazon.

Im still debating this one. i most likely will have one, Im just torn between what i want to do. I have already registered at babies r us, mostly because I wanted to see for myself what all i needed for baby and each week I have been going and buying a few things off of it myself to prepare. My mom always throws my showers, and she usually spends around $500 on each shower between food, gifts for the games, and everything else. She suggested that maybe we just take the money and go shopping ourselves one day for most of the things on the registry instead of doing the shower... so that's why Im torn. I've been thinking of ways to do both, because I want to have a shower too, so I've been thinking of maybe doing a diaper shower and having it be pot luck instead of asking for gifts, that way I get the best of both worlds? Anyway, Im still debating it. If I do a shower it will be on October 29 and will be Halloween theme!
