For those of you who have had back labor, does it feel significantly different from a back ache?
I know that for some people, labor can feel like diarrhea or the urge to push can feel like you really really need to have a bowel movement, so I was just wondering if back labor is similar or if it's more like regular contractions where it is a more obvious, unique sensation.

I had back labor with my first baby due to him being sunny side up, and let me tell you... IT'S HORRIBLE! It's like the worst period cramps/contractions in your life magnified times ten... but in your back!! I would definitely recommend an epidural if you esperience that!!

I always feel contractions in labor in my back. I haven't had any sunny side up babies so I know I don't have "back labor" but it does hurt in my back like a period cramp but more intense.

I don't think I had back labor just because I know he was in a normal position. Posterior baby equals back labor. I don't know if you can experience back labor with an anterior baby?
The days before I had Luke I thought I was constipated. I was taking colace but it didn't help. When I went into labor I realized what I was actually feeling was his head on my rectum. It was horrible to labor like that. I absolutely could not sit or lay down, it just drove his head in harder. I walked and stood for 8 hours laboring. I was exhausted. The pain in my back and bottom were terrible. Labor was nothing at all what I had imagined. Once I was fully dilated the pain was still terrible. I never got the urge to push. Pushing during a contraction made it infinitely more painful. I got an epi at that point. To have that pain taken away and given my mind back was truly amazing!
