Board name?

I noticed that November is voting on theirs....not sure if it's too early for us....but are we going to do this too? Maybe we can suggest/nominate some names and then vote in a poll as well?

I think we have to wait until everyone is out of their first trimester. Sorry I'm holding up the rear Smile Not too much longer though!

In order to start voting on board names everyone has to be out of the 1st trimester. So just a few more weeks! I'm due Jan 1 - so if the 1st trimester ends at 13 weeks you guys can start polling in about a week and a half Smile

Same goes for board mods - those are set up after the 1st trimester as well.

The good thing is that when you hit the second tri you could post a thread reminding everyone that its time to think of names Smile

How's that for pressure to remember!?

Geez Angela... make that baby grow faster LMAO! J/K I get to be the impatient one with an EDD of 12/1! No worries... we have all the time in the world, and it gives us more time to think up a cute name for ourselves!

It's 105* here today... I can't even start to think about cold weather, let alone December! Biggrin

But thanks for the reminder, so we can come up with some cute names!

Past December board names have been Gingersnaps, December Diamonds, and Sugar Plums (all of which are adorable!) so I'm going to throw out some preliminary suggestions that we can vote on later:

Snowflakes
Silver Bells
Tinsel Babies
Sleigh Bells

What do you guys think? Any other ideas? Any other suggestions are certainly welcome! This is going to be fun!

"Snowflakes" is often used in a derogatory manner, so it's probably a good idea to avoid that one--- but all the other suggestions are adorable. Smile

Wow, I never knew that. So I guess I am either really sheltered or proud that I haven't heard that referenced in my life.

I've never heard that either!

I'm so not creative. December Darlings? That's probably been used before.

Me either. The only time I've heard of snowflakes outside of the winter weather is when people refer to their frozen embryos.

Darlings has been used as well.

Sorry, meant to come back and explain, but DS1 managed to sidetrack me for the rest of the day. Biggrin

It mostly comes up on internet forums. You know how they say snowflakes are unique, and no two snowflakes are identical, etc. So it's kind of a derivative of that-- talking about "precious snowflakes" refers to parents who spoil their kids/don't let them fail as part of life experience/give them a pass on bad behavior because they're so much more special than everyone else's kids/blame everyone else on their less-than-perfect kids. Or their kids are so much infinitely more brilliant/better than other people's kids, despite the shortcomings that are obvious to everyone but the parents. That sort of thing.

If you want to Google something, try "precious snowflake" or "precious snowflake syndrome."

Examples:

(From Urban Dictionary): The mother sued the school because her precious snowflake failed all her classes, despite all the studying said snowflake didn't do, instead going to parties till 3 am every weeknight.

(A comment from a snowflake discussion): I thought "precious little snowflake" culture was the whole "Everyone has to be a winner", "Everyone should get to play", "Everyone is special all the time", etc, deal.

(Another comment from a snowflake discussions): Oh, and this snowflake BS has got to stop. A quick "good job" or "nice work" and move on is all these adults should be doing for the little kids. They don't need nearly as much "praise" as they get now. They should be getting advice and coaching on how to get better, not "everyone gets a prize regardless" crap. Those that get ahead in life are the ones that have adversity and overcome it. Those that seem to be without any, more than likely will not succeed in life. Give the kids a little adversity, instead of snowflaking them, and watch them truly grow into their own.

(A different discussion): The snowflake syndrome doesn't end at the preschool door but I was rather hopeful that any illusions about snowflakes would have been dispensed with by college. DS lives in off campus housing on the college bus route and easily walking distance to campus. Her DS, being so busy and brilliant, missed confirming his dorm room and now he has to stay at the on campus hotel for twice the money.

She was complaining about how expensive the cost of living now is for her DS, and ask me about my DS's expenses. She told me that her DS is taking 7 upper level science courses, tutoring, and is so brilliant that "his professors look like idiots" and "cannot answer a single question completely' that her DS asks. Because he so busy, and so extended, he wouldn't even have time to "make himself toast in the morning", etc, etc. but "btw, would my DS have room for another guy in their apartment"? At the time she asked, they would have. Did I say so? NO WAY! Not only do I NOT want to hear about a snowflake, I would guess that DS wouldn't want to LIVE with a snowflake.

Interesting! I have never heard that connotation of the word snowflake at all.

I really, really like Babes in Toyland! Perfect! I think it's more inclusive of those who don't celebrate Christmas, don't have snow or winter in December, etc.

Or we could do Snowbabies so as not to be insulting....lol Even though most of you probably live in places that don't see a drop of snow.
