Call or Not Call

I have been having the painless contractions all day long. They are definitely more frequent than 4 per hour (I counted 7 and 8 in two different hours) which is what most people say is "normal". For the most part as long as I am sitting they aren't nearly as bad but I can feel some of them. As soon as I stand up to do anything they intensify. I've had a couple of the RN's at work feel my stomach when it's tightening and they agree that I'm definitely having contractions. My question is should I call the doctor and see what he suggests? I just don't want to feel like a bother if these are totally normal at this point but I also don't want to let it go and throw myself into labor on accident somehow. I guess I just don't want people to see me as over-reacting and being "one of those people" if that makes sense.

I hate feeling like a bother to my Dr. but honestly thats what they are there for and its better to be safe than sorry. They will probably just want you to come in and check you or something,ya know?

Sure, why not call!? It would be one thing if you drove in and tried to check-in, but it is worth a call!

FWIW, I felt like crap last night after eating some really spicy tacos. I was having intense stomach tightening and felt very light headed. I layed down for most of the night and when I finally went to sleep, I was up a lot through the night because my stomach felt hard, and tight and somewhat painful. I know they were contrax of some sort. By this morning though they have pretty well disappeared. If they hadn't, I would be calling too...

If you call they'll probably make you go to the hospital for monitoring.

I figured he would just tell me to head to L&D to get monitored. Especially since I am at work at the hospital is 2 minutes away...lol

This and this...so did you go get monitored?

I hate being "that patient" but sometimes all we do is worry until assured by the dr.

They have actually eased up now and I haven't had any for awhile. You know how when you talk about stuff it vanishes and makes you look crazy? LOL But I am going to continue to keep an eye on them and if I have a repeat of this tomorrow I will be calling.

you should probably call and get checked just in case. I too have very frequent painful BH's. I can easily get 5-6 an hour for several hours before they stop. I got checked a week ago and they are purely BH's. I definitely feel more at ease knowing they are just atypical BH's.

You should get checked just in case to be sure they aren't causing cervical changes. You don't want to be walking around 3cm dilated at 31 weeks!

I would call too. When I have calledbefore they told MD to lay down/relax and drink x amount of water and call back after an hour if they havent settled down. A few times that didn't work for me so we had to go in to get checked. While there they still didn't stop. They check urine for UTI I think and finally gave me a shot of terbutaline to stop them. It makes you feel like you drank all the coffee from stArbucks and then some but it did stop them. The whole ordeal at hospital takes a while like three hours +

Did you call?

I'm getting my shield out to cover myself but no I didn't call because they all but stopped after I posted. But I promise that if tomorrow is a repeat of today I will be calling him to see what his advises.

I'm not throwing stones. It's up to you to decide if you should call. Follow your gut.

There have been a few episodes for me this pregnancy that my OBs and MWs would have told me to come in or call but I didn't. My gut feeling was I just did too much or didn't drink enough water got too stressed etc. I'd go to sleep and if it woke me up then I'd probably take them more seriously. But thats me and I've dealt with these type BH in every pregnancy.

If you got them to stop with rest and water then you probably didn't need to call.

It just sounds like bh contractions, especially since you said they're not hurting. Glad they eased up for you though!!
