Can't wait to announce it.... Wanna hear how?

So I've been having some trouble deciding when to announce our pregnancy. I've been back and forth between "Let's wait til the 1st trimester ends" to almost blurting it out on the phone!

I've come up with a plan. Since I am a garage-sale-aholic, and there is a very popular community garage sale coming up in the beginning of May, which I would like to start "window shopping" at least, I decided we need to tell our immediate family soon, and here's how:

DH ordered a t-shirt today for our youngest (he's 4). It reads "I'm going to be a big brother" in white writing on a green shirt. We are going to "stop by" our parent's houses next week and let them see how long it takes to read his shirt after his jacket comes off! I am so nervous to tell everyone, but excited to let the cat out of the bag at the same time.

As for the rest of the world, aka Facebook, it'll be a while yet, probably not until after the first scan. Biggrin

It shouldn't take them too long to figure that out! Are they real observant?

We're not sure when we'll tell yet. My dh told my FIL but only because I work for him and I want to take it easy (so he doesn't think I'm slacking...LOL). So FIL is the only one that knows, and honestly, he's probably already forgotten. Lol

We're thinking of *maybe* telling on Mother's Day - I'd be about 10 weeks and would have had the first scan a couple weeks before that. We'll see. I have had to stop myself a couple times from telling my sister on the phone. This is a hard secret to keep! But, since we had to untell everybody after I had a miscarriage this past summer, we're keeping our mouths shut for a bit.

That sounds so cute!! I can't wait to hear how it goes Smile

I took my first test when DH was at work, so I had at least a couple hours before telling him. So I rushed out and bought yellow and green baby socks, and wrapped them up in about 10 layers of tissue paper! Then I put it in a gift bag, told him it was an early birthday present, since his birthday was less than two weeks away Wink It was so cute!

He showed the socks to his parents to tell them, and I baked my parents "birthday cupcakes"...told them the birthday was going to be them on Dec 1 lol. Took them forever to get it

I don't know if they'll get it right away, but if they don't, I'll tell my little guy to tell grandma and grandpa to read his new shirt! He loves getting new clothes and showing them off, so that isn't uncommon for him to do that anyway.

I'm really hoping to get a good reaction out of everyone! I know my mom is going to be REALLY excited for me! The in-laws, they've never had an exciting reaction about anything, not any of my pregnancies or my SIL's engagement, so I don't expect a lot out of them except a few questions about when, and things like that.

Honestly, I'm the most excited about telling my kids! They've been asking for a baby for a few months now, so they're going to be very happy and want to tell everyone they meet! Oh boy.... I'm in for it now.... haha

Very cute idea! Hopefully they'll notice right away - but want to hear a funny story related to this? My friend did the same thing when they announced their 2nd pregnancy. She put a "Big Brother" t-shirt on her (2.5 yo at the time) boy when their in-laws were going to be babysitting him for an evening. So they got to the inlaws house, took his jacket off, and my friend and her DH kinda hung around the front door for a few minutes because the ILs hadn't noticed the shirt. They kinda kept waiting but the ILs still didn't notice. Finally my friend and her hubby gave up and just left. A little while later they called the ILs on the phone and were like "So, did you notice anything interesting about B's shirt?" MIL was like "Ummmm, no." So my friend finally had to say "OK, please go read what B's shirt says!!" LOL I guess they're not the swiftest folks!

HAHA I thought of that.... I know a couple people that we will try to tell that way that aren't too observant. But that's why we plan on telling the kids right before we start our announcements, so my little guy will be excited to have people read his shirt! He's 4, so it'll be a little easier for him to be in on it. Biggrin

I always think it would be fun to get a big brother shirt and let him loose!! Maybe at his birthday party or something!!!

I also had a friend who put her daughter in a big sister shirt... and it took her SO forever to notice.. and he just said to the daughter "why are you wearing this shirt? your not a big sister silly.." and shrugged it off... ! haha so then my friend had to say "well actuallly....." and had to spell it out for him!!

I've just told the parents and my boss. I just can't muster up the courage (or the desire) to tell anyone else! It's so funny that we can all BS on FB about our headaches or what movie we're on our way to see, but REAL news we don't want to share lol! I'll probably wait till after my first doc appt (4/18) to reveal it to the world... or maybe just when the baby's born lol...

So we have announced it to my mom, DH's aunt and uncle (we were there for a visit and he HAD to tell them), and just told DH's family tonight..... Here's how it went:

My 4 year old had his shirt on when my mom came to my house Wednesday with birthday cake for me! She asked me twice if we were serious, then had a huge smile and gave me a big hug. Asked the usual questions... Then chatted about how great the time off with the baby will be.

Went to DH's parents house tonight for Easter supper, 4 year old wearing shirt, and we were there for almost half an hour before DH's grandfather (83 years old) leans over to me and says "Is what his shirt says true?" LMAO. I told him, yes, it's true, and then of course everyone had to read the shirt after that! It was cute. Didn't get a big response from them right away, but after a little while there was a little bit of chatter about it. Just what I expected.

I'm excited and nervous that it's not our little secret anymore! Oh well, it's only a matter of time before I need new pants anway... LOL

I am so glad the big reveal went well! I've thought about how to let the cat out of the bag myself. I am only 5 weeks now and would ultimately like to have my first appointment under my belt before we tell family. We had a miscarriage last summer and it was heart breaking to have to tell people. So I want to keep quiet at least for a little while. I've only told my best friend so far (I had to tell someone!) and my supervisor at work.
