Hi ladies! I'm sorry I disappeared again. I've been traveling, working on getting some board exams for work, and just busy in general lately but I heard from a friend that the forums have been very dead so I'm making an effort to get back on here and keep things alive. These forums and our birth board have been a wonderful resource for me and I was sad to hear that they aren't be utilized as much anymore.
How is everyone else? Any news you want to share? I can't believe we are coming up on 18 months!
Not much new here - DS is still crazy active, climbing everything. We spend most of the day outside these days . He is communicating so well now, nodding and shaking his head, and saying tons of words. Our 18 month checkup is coming up.
Still not sleeping through the night though... sigh. He usually wakes up once and then ends up in bed with DH while I go to the guest bedroom. I am suffering from terrible insomnia so I cannot sleep with DS in bed. We want to start trying for no#2 but I need to get this insomnia under control first. It feels like I still feel pregnant some days - hot flashes, shortness of breath, insmonia. Sigh. Having my hormone levels checked so I hope that will give some answers.
Claire still isn't sleeping through the night either. I just switched her crib to a toddler bed. We went on a trip and she went down and slept wonderfully in the queen bed at my inlaws even when I wasn't in bed with her and has always hated her crib so I figured it was worth a try. The first few nights were rough because she was trying to adjust but now I lay with her in the toddler bed and let her nurse to sleep and she sleeps til 1 or 2 but I can't get her to go back to sleep in the toddler bed without laying back down with her and I'm lazy so she comes to bed with me. Then she sleeps until 5:30 before waking up again and I can just cuddle her back to sleep or nurse depending on her mood. It is very much improved compared to just a few months ago when she was still up every couple hours and sleeping most of the night with me but its getting old.
We just started working on number 2 but casually, not preventing anymore and going to see what happens. I still have to temp though to predict AF so its a little more casual on DHs part than mine.
It sounds to me like getting your hormones checked is a good first step. I hope you can get the insomnia figured out and corrected easily!
Forgot to mention what else Claire is up to. She is turning into a little homemaker. Loves her kitchen, her dolly, the dolly stroller, tries to change the dolly's diaper, sweeps the floor, wants to wash her ducky at bath time, and even turns on/off and will empty the washer and dryer into clothes baskets if I'm not paying attention. She says "un uh" to any question and her favorite phrase is "uh oh spaghettios." She knows the dogs name, woof woof, dog, and doggie but says Mom or mama maybe once a week if I'm lucky.
Hi! Glad to hear from you all though sorry for the sleep issues. I feel very fortunate (and please believe me that I'm not gloating here, just thanking my lucky stars) that sleeping through the night in his crib is something that DS has been able to do for several months now. Not to say that I'm sleeping through the night though as I've always been a crappy sleeper and wake up a couple of times on a good night. Elle I hope you can get some relief and I think you are smart to get your hormones checked in case that is contributing.
DS is climbing on everything! His favorite thing to climb on now is our glass coffee table...eek, drives me crazy because I worry he or some heavy object he is carrying up there will go crashing through. He loves tinkering with things and figuring out how they work. Loves doorknobs, light switches and faucets if he can reach them. He is a little helper around the house...likes to help fill the cat food dish, put clothes in the dryer, and hand me items from the dishwasher. But most of the time he is creating messes instead of cleaning His verbal language skills are little behind his other skills. His receptive language is good and he babbles but he only says a handful of words and not consistently. I was very happy to hear "ma" finally He is signing though so we will keep that up.
Hi everyone! All is well here. Elle, I'm sorry to hear about the sleeping problems. I would be out of my mind if I couldn't get enough sleep. I hope you can get some relief!
Evelyn is talking up a storm and lately she really likes singing. She'll come up to me and say "a-b-c-d?" and then we have to sing the alphabet song together. She also loves "wheels on the bus" and "Old McDonald" (she calls it E-I-E-I).
When she gets excited, she does this funny little run, but her running is actually slower than her walking because she runs in place. It's too funny!
My DH is almost finished with his Master's, so he'll be looking for a job soon, which means we'll be looking for child care. I am dreading it! I'm secretly hoping he'll get a job that will allow me to quit and stay home. We're also thinking about TTC again. Ideally, I'd like to wait until he has a job, but we haven't really been preventing since Evelyn was born, so whatever will be, will be.
It is so fun to me to read how different each of our kids are at the same age. I'm sure I will be just as fascinated by the differences when we have a second kid.
Christina, climbing scares me! I would be a wreck all day if Claire was a climber.
Carrie, Maybe he will find something that will allow you to work less and not have to do full time child care at least?
We've got a non-sleeper, too. My big guy sleeps off by himself in his crib for 11 hours every night and has since maybe 8 months, but my girly is no where near ready for sleeping well yet. Oh well! One day. Maybe. We had the 18 months appointment. My big guy is on the charts , 32" and 23 lbs. My tiny girly is 29" and 18 lbs. They're saying no now, but not obnoxiously just yet! I'm finding toddlers are SO much better than infants!!
Nonetheless we have -GASP!- decided to start trying again this month or next. We must be crazy. I am, terrified but excited to give DS a little brother/sister...
I forgot to mention that DS has become obsessed with his lovie a few weeks back. One day to the next, it has to come everywhere and he hugs it like crazy whenever he sees it. It's cute! We need to order a replacement ASAP.
