With being due so close to Christmas...have you started shopping? If so, how are you doing? If you haven't started, when do you plan to?
I have started shopping...have about 5 people done so far. Also have picked up a few stocking stuffers here & there for DS, and have a general idea of what we'll get for the rest of the people on our shopping list. I have all of my wrapping supplies, and just preordered our envelopes for our birth announcements/holiday cards so I can get them preaddressed. I plan to combine the announcement with our holiday card to save on time & shipping costs.
I am feeling a little bit prepared in this department! It's going to be freezing here (I live in Minnesota) and I'm NOT venturing out w/snowy, icy roads, in the crowds, with a newborn and a toddler!
Oh I need to get on this  I don't even know where to begin or what to get everyone...!
Oh yes, I started in August! My plan is to be done by Thanksgiving, that's what I shoot for every year! My son's birthday is next week, and DD's birthday is in December, along with our anniversary and then Christmas, I have to start shopping early or else everything goes to hell!!
I'm almost done. We knocked a huge amount of Christmas shopping out of the way when a bunch of people at work got together and ordered some really nice sports jerseys from overseas! I haven't gotten DH anything and I want to get a few more little things for Nicholas. Also the MIL and FIL has a birthday AND Christmas coming up so we need two gifts for her.
My goal is to have everything wrapped by Nov 1st I don't want to even think about fighting crowds and buying presents when I am huge and uncomfy!
Havent started but I am soon. We don't buy for a whole lot of people though. We only buy for our parents, siblings, and nieces/nephews, and our kids of course. Parents and siblings usually get gift cards so that's easy. We've already told everyone that we aren't going all out for Christmas this year as we have a baby we have to plan for and such. I think Christmas is more for the kids anyways so they are the ones who deserve the gifts.
We buy for WAY too many people and that is even cut back from when we first got married. We usually shop online and have it all shipped to our house so no need to rush.
I'm far more concerned with Deacon's birthday and some upcoming stuff and then after that I will think about it.
Kudos to you for being prepared for the birth announcement/Christmas card. I would like to do that too if DD is here before Christmas...but most likely it will be after so I may just do a B.A. this year.
I'm only buying toys for the kids and the adults are getting gift cards and a picture of Connor lol.
I plan to be done next week. Mostly doing catalog and online shopping and then calling it done!
I am almost don with Christmas. I am due the first week of December, and I can guarentee you that I WILL NOT be hitting the Black Friday sales. Getting it done early and shipped so it is one less thing to worry about!
Ugh, I have got to mine done soon!! I started in August, but have really only bought a few things. Stocking stuffers are mostly done. I'm starting to think there will be a lot of gift cards in my future (for the adults anyway!)
We don't have as many online options here in Canada unfortunately. And I am too exhausted to get any in-store shopping done. Anyway. This is the one year that we'll be excused for just doing gift cards or simple things or whatnot. And my kids won't really notice if Christmas is more low-key this year compared to last. So we'll do the basics and not worry too much.
Call me scrooge, but I don't really plan to do much Christmas shopping. Christmas is one of my favorite holidays, but I think most people go way over the top when it comes to buying gifts and forget the true meaning of the season. I may buy gifts for my parents because I truly appreciate everything they do for us and don't get to tell them often enough. I don't exchange with my siblings, but I will buy a little something for my three nephews. I doubt that DH and I will even exchange gifts, there are some years we do and some years we don't. It's just too much stress and I would rather relax and enjoy the time with my family.
Carrie - I couldn't agree more with what you said:
Christmas is one of my favorite holidays, but I think most people go way over the top when it comes to buying gifts and forget the true meaning of the season.
One of my siblings had the hardest time when we all agreed to stop buying gifts for each other and only the kids. But every year it was the same song and dance - he and his DW would spend double or triple what everyone else would spend and (even though we shouldn't) we would all feel a little bad when we couldn't afford to keep up. Now each kid gets a $10-15 gift and we all buy for our parents and grandparents and that's all. Its ridiculous to go into tons of debt over a holiday like we have for so many years. It was the best feeling last year and the one before to pay cash for everything and on Dec 26th we had no Christmas debt.
Meh - Don't remind me. Grrrr. It never ends.
I am glad we aren't the only ones who don't buy for everyone! I have 5 nieces/nephews that I buy for so by the time you spend $20 on each of them that's 100 bucks!! My parents and DH's parents buy whatever they want, when they want so there is nothing they ever really need or want. We don't really even go crazy with our kids. They usually get one big gift and then 3-4 small items. DH and I don't exchange gifts either. I get more joy out of watching my kids than anything. And like Carrie said, Christmas shouldn't be about the presents. We try to stress the real meaning to our kids.
I have started- mostly stuff on e-bay for the kids. We do a gift exchange christmas for my dh family and play an exchange game. And we have agreed that we don't buy for each other kids. And the kids are fine with it. They get their gifts from grandma and grandpa and they are happy with that. They like spending time with each other. My mom we draw names or get small gifts for each other. So mainly just end up buying for our kids.
would love to get it done way ahead of time this year!
