crib bumpers

Are you going to use one or not? With the new guidelines I feel more confused. I have a breathable one, but I love the cuteness of the one I registered for.

Yes - we will use the ones that came with the bedding set. Dh insists on it since he doesn't want the baby to hit her head.

I have mine in the crib cause it's so darn cute, but the baby is sleeping in our room in a co-sleeper so its moot. When the baby does use the crib I'll either take it out or something.

I found this one at TJ Maxx and bought it! It's like a combo... has some cushioning to prevent bumping into the crib or limbs getting stuck, but it is made with this breathable mesh! I thought it was by far the best of both worlds.

Funny you mention this! I slept in Lukes room last night bc dh is sick. Luke hit his head soooooo many times last night on the rails of his crib! He always has little bruises on his head and face, I had no idea where they came from till now.

We took his bumper out a few months ago bc he was always taking it off and I was getting tired of fixing it. I don't have a problem with bumpers. I think loose bedding and pillows are a bigger problem.

Yep, we'll be using ours. The crib is all done up and waiting for him! My problem with this whole issue is that they keep saying it's not safe for a newborn... well, I don't put my newborn in the crib! My babies are always with me up until around 3 months old, then I move them to their crib. By that age, they're fully capable of moving around themselves, so I don't see that they're a danger to baby. As long as there's no pillows or stuffed animals in there with baby, I think they're just fine. And like you girls said, I don't want him smacking his head against the hard rails, or getting his little arm stuck in there!

We've never used crib bumpers. I don't think they're safe and to be honest, we've never had a need for them. My kids have both slept in cribs with bare bars from about 3 months to about 2ish years old, and neither has ever had a problem with bumping into the bars or getting stuck. I can recall 2 times that DS got an arm or leg stuck in the middle of the night and we had to go free him, but otherwise it's been a non-issue. And I'd much rather free a limb every now and then than increase a suffocation risk. We did have the breathable bumpers but we never used them because they were more of a pain than they were worth.

Using one. Have w/ the other 2 & never had a problem. If they are tiny & you're using your crib they should be on their backs & unable to roll over anyways so personally I don't see a problem w/ it.

From the days of riding in the backs of trucks w/out seats....yep, that's me Smile

Nope. We used one with ds and it made me sick with worry. I took it and wrapped it in between the crib slats to make it a little better, but I eventually took it out. I threw it away and we never used one with dd and we won't use one with Luke either. I feel more comfortable with a little bruise or stuck leg then a suffocation risk.

I thought about a breathable bumper, but ultimately we felt more comfortable going without one.

We have a breathable one but really if we didn't have that one I wouldn't use one.

I'll be using one. It was such a lifesaver to not worry about hands/feet/arms getting stuck in the middle of the night (hence, mommy loses sleep) and also that way the paci never fell out of the crib either. We took the bumper down when Nicholas could stand up on his own.

We aren't doing cribs from the start so I don't have this planned out. If we do get them, because we'd be getting them new, we'll go for the breathable ones.

Havn't thought about it yet- no crib here yet- Dh and hos dad will most likely be adding another room in the house so baby will be in our room till that done. My friend is making me a baby quilt for the crib. So may go without them... I guess I will think of it when we get the room thing sorted out .
