Even maternity clothes don't fit...

It's a sad day over here today. I realized that many of the shirts, even ones I wore right to the end with DS, don't seem to be fitting right anymore! They are snug around the belly and my belly keeps trying to peek out of the bottom! And some of my shorts feel like they have been painted on! It's a sad day to realize that I have even outgrown my maternity clothes. Sigh. Guess I need to buy a size up for the fall?!

I'm sorry - that is sad. I am still fitting in mine but I think its because I started this pg 15 lbs less than the last. Are you delivering in the same season? I had ds in Nov so most of my maternity clothes are still too big and they are winter.

Completely different season. I had DS in July... I've gained 20 lbs so far with this pregnancy, so it's a bit more than with DS at this stage, but not that much that I would feel like I'm popping out of my clothes.

Well that would make total sense then. By this time you were in different seasoned clothes. So do your 6 month clothes fit?

I'm on the cusp of 20 lbs...like if I have my prenatal vitamin tonight I will hit it. I am trying to tell myself to stop weighing every day and get over it but its a serious obsession right now.

SO you are saying that is normal to change maternity clothes sizes around 6 months? I don't really have 6 month clothes. I need to buy some fall stuff, but it will still be pretty warm here for another month or so.

Ugh, I'm obsessed too. I was at 20 pounds last week at my doc appt. She isn't worried so I'm trying to worry less about it, but it isn't easy!

Well - for me personally I was like a medium at the beginning of both pregnancies and have moved into a large now. Soon - as I get closer to the fall - I will be in XL until I deliver. All of my warmer, winter clothes are all XL. You can't expect the clothes you wear at 3 months to still fit at 9 months, right?

I guess that makes sense! I stayed in the same size through my whole other pregnancy though, so I guess I hadn't even thought about it. I guess this time around though, it's time to move a size up!

Ack, bummer! I don't wanna buy more maternity clothes Wink

Good job staying in the same size last time - that would have saved me tons of money! LOL

For sure! It hurts to spend money on clothes you are only going to wear for a few months! And I just ordered that jacket and shirt and now they are probably the wrong size  Hope they have a friendly exchange policy!! haha. Well, thanks! Now I don't feel so down hearing that it is normal to change sizes. SmileSmileSmile :bighug:

I have had to buy new tops for nearly every pregnancy even though all the kids were born in the colder seasons. I think the shirts shrink everytime I wash them. Wink old navy has decent prices and cute tops. Also if you have a belly band you can wear that to hide your belly when it wants to peek out.

I was JUST going to ask... where do you like to shop for maternity clothes that are nice and a good deal! I will definitely have to check them out.

If you have Kohl's you could check them out too. Ours has a good selection and of course really good sales.

I love kohls. I think I even have some kohls cash. I haven't been impressed with their maternity selection before, but it is worth checking!

I found a cute top there last week on the clearance rack. Maybe look online too if you know what size you need

Hang on. Do you guys really buy bigger mat clothes midway through your pregnancies? Eeek, I've never done that, but I have outgrown them. I just couldn't justify buying new clothes for only 2-3 months! That would get so dang expensive!

I can tell you for sure that the mat clothes from my 1st pregnancy (pants mainly) would never fit me now. I think my hips spread apart and stayed that way. And yeah I swear the shirts shrink up and get shorter and shorter.... lol So I have bought new clothes with each pregnancy, because my pre-pregnancy measurements have changed.

But I have never gone out and bought a bigger mat size during pregnancy. I thought a size Medium is supposed to fit a Medium gal from start to finish? I am usually a medium and I thought mat clothes were built to stretch and last from 1st tri to 3rd tri. Although I totally have had the experience of hitting that last month or so and having nothing fit right anymore.

I dunno Nicole! I wore a small through my entire first pregnancy. They all fit big when I first started wearing them again (same clothes and new ones) during this pregnancy, and now some of them are so damn tight! Esp. the shorts! And my shirts are playing peek a boo belly and boobs! I didn't have to buy different sizes last time, but it seems like I might have to this go round.

Jules ~ have you thought about just going to a Ross, Target or a 2nd hand store & picking up some cute summer dresses to get you through the next month or so? If you get the right ones you can use them on the other side of your pregnancy & even if you are going to be nursing. I love summer dresses!! You can usually wear the same ones through 3 or 4 sizes.

Then you can invest in warmer clothes in maternity sizes instead of warm & cold ones.

I have avoided maternity clothes like the plague this pregnancy! I hope to continue, but I think I'm going to have to give in & get some jeans.

And ladies, I'm at almost 20lbs too so you are NOT ALONE! I gained 1 pound last month & like 4 pounds in the last WEEK!!! wth?!?!?

I'm not a huge dress or skirt fan, but I have worn them more this pregnancy. I can't imagine wearing them every day, but that is a thought. I am going to try to look for shirts that will transition well into the fall and I can wear with cardigans and such, and probably a couple pairs of pants. Maybe I'll just make do with the shorts I do have... I have Friday off, before we leave on vacation, so I'm planning to go up and look around then.

I will buy clothes when I need them. Its usually one shirt here or there, not an entire wardrobe. Besides them getting too small - season change. Not like I can wear short dresses and tank tops in the winter. Granted, I just about moved to maternity clothes before my HPT dries - lol.

This year I will be buying an outfit for DH's company Christmas party. I hate to spend that kind of money at 37 weeks but I am looking forward to being pregnant for the party. Well, at least right now I am looking forward to it, ha.

i was just at kohl's today!! I bought a pair of maternity jeans...

http://www.kohls.com/kohlsStore/womens/special_sizes/maternity/pants_jeans/PRD~870505/Oh+Baby+by+Motherhood+Secret+Fit+Belly+Bootcut+Jeans.jsp

it was hard to justify 38$.... but i will probably LIVE in them, plus we want more kids so I have more pregnancies to go. I think its worth the investment.

I didn't see any maternity tops that I liked... but I got two XL tops in the junior section that are really cute!

have you ladies looked on ebay??? its hard not trying stuff on,,, but you can buy "lots" of 3 or 4 shirts for 10 bucks ya know? even if only two look nice its still cheap Smile

That would be awesome. I told DH that if I am in labor or had the baby the day of the party I would understand him going to the party instead. A big party of his job revolves around this party and every year its so fun to see his hard work pay off. And it helps that the hospital is like 2 miles from the hotel Wink

Wondering if anyone had luck with craigslist or garage sales? Seems kind of weird, but if I'm going to be changing sizes, I'm open as it wasn't in my budget!

I've already put $$ in our September budget for more maternity clothes. All my clothes so far are capris & short sleeve shirts. Those don't fly in the rainy Portland fall! I need fall clothes for work asap! Sadly, I have grown out of my maternity jeans I bought in June...that's not my belly's fault

That's been my experience, so far at least. I popped so quickly, i bought a lot of mat wear staples at 12 weeks and they still fit. I am consistently a medium in pants/jeans and thankfully don't seem to be gaining tooooo much in my legs. For tshirts, I am a medium too but I can't see them fitting me in the ninth month! They are tight!

Sweaters I bought in small just last week because they seem to be cut looser, so the medium sags under my arms which I don't like. I hope I don't regret that though, I plan to wear them till the end!

So far at least I have found that if tops are extra long, they last a lot better! Some stores also particularly market on the fact that clothes will fit you from 1st tri to delivery and bounce back for after birth. Thyme Maternity says this...so far so good, I will let you know if it stays true Wink my whole entire wardrobe is from there, lol!

I actually have grown out of some of my maternity clothes too and previous preg. the clothes lasted the whole time. I get to wear scrubs to work so don't have to worry too much about work clothes except i bought a bigger size pants and they are getting too tight already. And my tops are starting to get way too small and ride up. Problem with those is the bigger size pants you go the bigger the leg and you ended up looking flooded. And don't really want to go out and get maternity ones because the shop here that has them are around 45 for the pants and another 45 for the top.

Might try thyme and see if they ave cargo looking pants that i can wear to work.

My worry is the winter coat- its gets very cold here so I will have to get a winter coat that will fit me for december.

I'm moving through clothing like crazy. I was a medium, now I'm popping out of my large stuff, and I tried on XL gear but it's all huge in the wrong places. I'm having a frustrating few minutes at the start to every day when I realize I just have to wear the same two shirts over and over again.

I hate buying maternity clothes because to me I will never wear these clothes again so why on Earth do I want to spend so much money on them just so I can wear them a few months! Thankfully for work I am in scrubs so my pants still fit amazingly well and if I have to buy a larger size they have drawstrings so I will still be able to wear them after baby. I have two pairs of maternity pants and they honestly drive me insane!! The expanding part of the belly seems to slide of my stomach (I am guessing because it's too big for them...lol) and I am constantly pulling them up.

My bras have been the worst part of maternity garb so far! I miss my normal size boobs! I went from small maternity tops to m/L now, and I am still in Meduim pants....my normal underwear are not fitting and I need to go get more maternity undies....blah!

Yes, this is me!

And I looked at Mimi Maternity... which is now called pea in the pod maternity. In their clearance section they wanted $70 for a henley tee! I was like HOLY CRAP. I'm going to a second hand store on Friday and Old Navy hoping to find a few affordable transitional clothes that I can wear now and into the fall.

And YES Sheila! I'm wearing the same things over and over and over. We are going on Vacay on Saturday, and I realize I can't pack early bc I will have to wash everything again before we go otherwise I won't have clothes to wear this week haha.

I just can't get myself to spend the money on stuff I will only be wearing for a few months either! So frustrating!

The new bras are the only thing I don't mind buying as I know they will be bigger for an extended period of time since I plan to BF/pump as long as possible.

Me too! I had to get my maternity undies out - they are way too big but at least the don't cut off the circulation to my legs like my normal ones were doing, lol.

Hmmm, Thyme maternity here in Canada is definitely not that expensive. I got some long-sleeved tees in their clearance section back in the spring for between $7-$10. So I wonder if it's not really an exact equivalent store.

Anyway, yeah, the winter coat issue. There is just no way I can justify spending a bunch of money on a maternity coat! I will really only need it for November, and maybe a week or two in December. But I'll need something. Ugh. Today was the first time I've worn a coat with a big belly. It was sort of comical, in an "Oh, right, that's not going to fit me. Ummm... now what?" sort of way. lol I got sort of spoiled with having 2 summer babies last time and not having to worry about boots and coats.

Yea, maybe not the equivalent or maybe I googled it wrong.

Re: the maternity coat, I was talking about that the other day with my mom and she had a good point. If you plan to wear the baby after delivery, the coat will still come in handy as you will have that extra room up front to wrap the baby in with you. I thought that was a good idea!

Pea in the pod is expensive! All the mimi stuff I have seen are more in the 10-20 dollar range.

What bras are you ladies wearing? Every bra except sports bras hurt. I have one nursing bra that is comfortable... But my boobs just look so much bigger in it. Ugh

Right now I am still stuffing myself into the Incredible bra by V.S. However - when I went to lunch I stopped by the bathroom and my BBS are busting out so bad that its tacky. I definitely need to buy a new one this weekend.

I feel so left out of this conversation. =/ I am still shoving myself into my pre-preggo clothes, mostly dresses & flip-flops for me....and usually year round.

I don't think it's going to work when jeans become a necessity though.

People keep saying you aren't going to be able to continue wearing that in the Winter. My response is why? I'm going to be pregnant & in Southern California. lol

Those bras sound great! That is something I'm willing to spend money on... plus I hope to BF for a year, so that is a good investment. I am just trying to figure out what size to get!?!?

Jules... I have the same problem!!! I hate how sizes vary, its so annoying!!! I wonder how well nursing with a molded cup would work though... seems like the cup would keep popping back up in the baby's face.

Yea, plus you don't know what size you will be after your milk comes in and things settle back in. I never thought about the molded cup either. My previous nursing bras didn't have molded cups, so I haven't tried that before... Plus, I have to live in bra liners. I'm a leaker.

oh that stinks! i never leaked. I was all ready with pads and liners, but never needed them. I was an DDD or E cup while breastfeeding. I was ALL boobs. here's me 2 months post partum. I remember wanting to stand sideways like that because of how much bigger they'd look straight on. Yeah... i hate having big boobs.
