Failed My One Hour GTT

I am so mad. Althought I can't say that I am shocked. So instead of just calling it GD since I have a previous history I now have to suffer through the 3 hour test next week. I think I am most upset about that. Obviously my body can't process the sugar so why are you going to subject me and my baby to something that harms us? UGH I failed at 148 so he said there is a possbility I could pass the 3 hour. I won't. I wish people would listen.

Boo!! Sorry to hear that and it sucks that you have to go through the test again. Won't that make 3 times for you?

Yes it will. I think it's silly to make someone do it 3 times in one pregnancy. I think if you have a history and fail the one hour you should automatically be considered to have GD.

I don't know why all OB's just don't make all patients take the 2 hour test. It seems to me that the 1 hour is a waste of time, as they're wrong half the time and force you to go through the 3 hour one unnecessarily. Even if you think you have it, I think the two hour would have been best. Anyway, good luck Jessicah!

I agree. I had the 2 hour test and the number that came up high for me was the one that they took at one hour. If it had been the one hour test, I would have had to do the 3 hour, but instead I am monitoring my blood sugar, which makes a lot more sense.

Sad I am sorry and I completely agree with you about that drink. It is not the way that a normal pregnant woman eats, so its not an accurate showing of what your body does during pregnancy. Women don't generally go without food for hours, guzzle a super sweet drink and then give blood away 3 times in 3 hours. Ugh, this is a sore spot for me. It would make so much more sense to tell us to go eat a cheeseburger and fries or pancakes with syrup and then check our blood sugar. That is typical bad eating.

I hope you do pass your three hour though!

I couldn't agree with this more because I really don't eat sugary foods very often. I am not a "sweets" kind of person. So making me consume this super sugar beverage is not something I would normally do. Let me eat a typical meal and then test my blood sugar against my diet. That makes more sense!!

Amen to that! I am still kind of sore about this whole GD thing, especially when I show up to class yesterday and the nurse says, "Oh, you're the one whose number was only off by a few." Yep, that's me, thank you very much. And the diet they want me to eat is actually higher carb than one I am currently eating. It's a bunch of crap!

I'm sorry Jessicah Sad If it makes you feel any better I did a ton of googling when I failed my 1 hour and lots of people in the 140's passed the second time. My 1 hr result was 196.

I've heard that some OBs in my area allow you to do this over the drink!

Sorry Jessicah. The 3 hour does sound brutal... Sad

My sisters OB lets you do the "Happy Meal" test if you can't keep down the sugar drink. You go to McDonalds and order a hamburger happy meal. I think the burger has to be plain and you consume the meal and then do the test.

Hey I failed the one hour with 170, but passed the three hour. The same thing happened with my first DD. There is hope yet....
