First Meals...

We were talking about this on another thread....what do you want your first meal/food to be after delivering baby? I remember with DS1, within 15 minutes the nurses brought me peanut butter and graham crackers and a Pepsi...ohmygosh that was the best food ever b/c I hadn't eaten in almost 24 hours. I kept asking for more and I think I cleaned them all out of those little individual cups of PB. ha ha!

Here's a question...with my most recent delivery (c-section) I couldn't eat anything after I delivered except ice chips until I passed gas (I think?) then I could have clear liquids like broth. I was starving! I will be delivering at a different hospital this time...I am hoping that their policy is different. BTDT c-section mamas...what was your experience with that?

they brought me a tray... I wanted NOTHING to do with it. I sent DH down the street to get me a strawberry coolata and an everything bagel with cream cheese from Dunkin Donuts. I think it may have been the BEST thing I EVER ate Biggrin

That evening after I delivered via csection I was supposed to be on a clear liquids diet. But someone brought me chips and queso from my fav mexican place and I ate that. Smile

This time I haven't really thought about it. I liked the hospital food last time I will probably just eat what they serve. I haven't been very deprived this pregnancy so there is nothing I'm dying to have.

My hospitals food is actually alright! I had tomato soup with crackers one time but I don't remember the other three times. I do remember being very hungry!

I want a huge plate of raw sushi this time! Not right after delivery but maybe next day fir lunch Lol

Lurker...

After a csection is usually liquids for a few hours, maybe the first day but that's a long time. I honestly did not want to eat anything but the jello and the chicken broth was heavenly afterwards.

You can probably call the hospital and ask what their 'after csection' procedure is. That way you know. I was only in the hospital for 2 full nights after my c/s and I remember sending my DH out for food on my second day. My hospital has nice food but I was craving Mexican food!

Hmm, I'm not sure! I don't remember having an issue with the hospital food last time, but maybe that was just because i was so hungry and tired I didn't care. I guess we will see when the time comes!

I haven't really thought about this.

I think it was w/ my first daughter that right after I delivered they were trying to hurry me out to a recovery room & I kept stalling. My husband brought me a burger & fries combo plate along w/ a diet mt dew. I cannot recall ever eating that fast before or since then.

I delivered late at night they had no food for me...serious, it was crackers and apple juice til the am, I think breakfast came at 9....I was starving.

With DD I had my parents go get me Carls Jr. And yes, it was awesome.

This time the only thing close will be Mexican or In n out. I hope it is not the middle of the night.

I was told that the hospital I am delivering at serves a lobster dinner to new parents. I dunno...the thought of hospital lobster doesn't sound too appealing. Maybe they bring it in from a local restaurant. I'm curious to see if it's true.

My only option at the hospital will be a chicken salad sandwich, pretty much! Haha. I will take some of my own cooking and keep it in the fridge there. But I plan to order pizza as soon as I get home, I think!! Then I want a nice big deli turkey sandwich, maybe with a little cranberry sauce...mmm. And somehow I want to get a couple Bellinis, ASAP!! I wish I could do take-out drinks

I already told dh I want a cold sub from subway right after I have the baby. Good thing there's a Subway a few blocks away from the hospital I'm delivering at, lol.

I had a turkey sandwich and an apple after delivering Nicholas and it was heavenly because I hadn't eaten in 24 hours. This time around I'm not too concerned about it because I don't know how my blood sugar will be afterwards. I do know that there are pumpkin beers sitting in the back of my refrigerator waiting for me to get home from the hospital Smile

lol I feel slightly guilty but my first response to this is, I would like my dh to sneak me in an adult beverage. I have craved margarita's this whole pregnancy. Thank god for Jelly belly's they have cocktail flavors.

However, I think I'll settle for a vanilla shake and cheese burger...

Not a c-section mama, but I think I snacked on pineapple last time, but was more interested in snoozing with DH and DS1. DH brought in some breakfast burritos from Sonic, but I let him eat that for me, lol. Thanks for the reminder to pack a little something to nosh on afterwards! Smile

I had the liquid diet for a couple of days, broth, juice, jello. Ice chips right after surgery, then water but after that the liquid diet. I remember that when I could have a full meal I had an upset stomach and was not well. Liquid diet after is quite common after abdominal surgery.

But when I get home any home cooked meal would do !

I honestly don't remember what I had after my first baby - I was in the hospital and got back to the postpartum room at about 4pm-ish so they must have brought me some sort of supper. Don't remember at all, nor do I remember being hungry.

After my second baby my family ordered chinese food and they brought me a plate in my bedroom (homebirth), but I wanted nothing to do with it. Everyone kept trying to get me to eat and I was not interested at all! I think later that evening I had some of the leftovers.

This time, we'll see! I won't hesitate to send someone out to get me food if the mood strikes me. Wink

I never even thought of this. I will make sure to pack a snack just in case. I have no particular cravings I can think of (well, except a nice glass of red wine but that will have to wait). My friend's mom had champagne after the birth of her child and just a few sips made her really sick and she threw up all over the place. Just something to keep in mind.

I think alcohol was one of the first things I packed in my overnight bag last time around - mudslide ingredients... totally forgot about it in the hospital, though. I'm really not much of a drinker, but it sure is a nice thought.

Some women actually refrain from drinking while breastfeeding too. That's going overboard if you ask me.

*lurker*

I had a c-section and they didn't keep food away from me. I had my section at around 1am, when I woke I ordered my #1 craving. Pancakes. I had GD and pancakes with syrup was a big no no, made my sugar spike so badly.

They were heavenly!

With DD I delivered her at 11pm and wasn't in my room until well after 1am so there was literally nothing to eat. They managed to scrounge up a chicken salad sandwich which I normally would never have eaten but I was literally so starved (I was induced the night before at 7pm so I was 30 hours with no food!!) that I ate the entire thing in 10 seconds.

At my hospital they do a special steak dinner for the parents the night after you deliver. It was actually really, really good. This time I am definitely going to bring snack food in case I happen to deliver in the middle of the night and have nothing available.

I sent DH for Chick-Fil-A. I don;t care what the doc said. I had not eaten in 24 hour, too and I was hungry....

FWIW- I had a vag. delivery and it was hours later when I sent him out...

I had all of mine at the hospital and all I had was ice chips... although I'll admit I wasn't hungry at all, with any of them. I think food is the last thing on my mind when I'm in that atmosphere (hospitals freak me out lol), and I'm just too excited about baby! After baby comes, they bring a menu around and I check off what I would like to eat.
