What does it mean????? The Dr. seemed so unshaken by this, but I have never had it before. Please tell me your stories. Will it effect the baby?
I think you just need to get IV antibiotics before delivery. If you're prone to yeast infections from antibiotics, make sure to ask for that oral yeast infection pill, too.
I wasn't GBS+ with Brynna but I know they just give you IV antibiotics while you're in labor to prevent giving it to baby. I think it's fairly common and nothing to be alarmed about.
Gbs is part of your normal flora.it lives in your GI tract. It comes and goes and is not always present. They don't screen in early pregnancy because it can be negative, but then be positive again by delivery. It can cause severe pneumonia or meningitis if baby gets it. That's why they give you abx at delivery to temporarily kill it while the baby is born.
Okay...the part that freaked me out was when he said the baby would be closely monitored and reminded me we have a NICU if he needs it.
As long as you get the antibiotics baby should be fine.
I had it with one girl & not with the other. Totally routine & nothing abnormal. You will be fine.
All of these answers were so great... no need for me to say anything except for don't worry about it!!
I'm positive, too.
Sorry you are positive too. I feel so dirty, lol
II was positive with ds. It is no big deal. It is a bacteria we all have and it comes and goes in our bodies through out our lives. You will get antibiotics during birth so you don't give it to baby in but you will be fine!
I'm positive... and my midwives are just fine with me doing my natural home water birth as planned, as long as my water breaks during labor, not more than a few hours before labor starts at least.
I was positive with my first too, she was also natural home water birth. I am glad my midwives are fine with me declining antibiotics and IV.
