I think my dr told me to not eat for one hour before going to the lab for the glucose test.....does that sound right??
They told me not to have anything to eat/drink after midnight if at all possible.
My dr. recommended me to eat something before the test but make sure it doesn't contain sugar. She recommended toast with real butter and black coffee. This was 3 years ago though so I don't know if things have changed since then.
Mine doesn't say much about the 1 hour, because for me it's usually not scheduled. they decide to do it a little early based on baby growth and weight gain.
With the 3 hour they tell me nothing after midnight though.
I wasn't told anything last time around. I didn't know I was having that test done when I did, and I had eaten a full breakfast right before I went.
Just goes to show how every doctor is different....lol
My midwife told me not to have any sugary drinks before the test. That's it! No food restrictions... ??
My nurse just said to eat breakfast that morning (my test is at 10 a.m.) but not to eat anything sugary. I was planning on eating some ham & eggs and just some water to drink.
This is what I was told too. They schedule the appts for first thing in the morning since you have to fast.
I had my 1 hour test yesterday. I was told I could eat and drink however I wanted and to avoid caffeine. Once I drank the stuff not to eat but I could have water.
I failed the test by 4 frigging points so I need to do the 3 hour test
I scheduled mine today and she said "eat nothing or eat something like eggs, nothing sugary"
For the one hour screen my midwife suggested going about an hour after lunch, and to eat plenty of protein at lunch to help keep my sugar stable since I couldn't eat during the one hour wait. I was allowed two tiny sips of water to wash out the sugar taste, but I wasn't allowed to drink after that either. Though I had gulped down a bunch of water in the parking lot before going in...hope that was okay!
I asked my OB today and she said to not fast - just eat how I normally would. My appt is in the afternoon, too. She said fasting beforehand or changing your diet drastically just for the test is going to give false results.
It seems really weird to me that so many DRs are saying such different things.
The paper they gave me says "It is not necessary to be fasting prior to doing the test, but it is probably best that you have not eaten anything very sweet or sugary within a couple hours of the test."
My DR also said something about not eating any starches and even starchy fruit might be bad.
Rather than worry about exactly what I'm eating, I'm just going to fast and take it in the morning.
I can certainly see where eating the wrong thing right before the test could throw the test off. You would have an abnormal amount of sugar in your system and it might give a false positive result.
I'd rather not take a chance.
I was told to fast with mine. I had to take it at 16 weeks due to my previous history of gestational diabetes. I passed with flying colors this time. During my pregnancy with Brynna I also fasted and failed with a 140. I took the 3 hour and failed with a 148.
Mine said no eating or drinking twelve hours before. And since I failed my one hour one with DD and had to go back for a three hour one (which turned out fine anyway!) I'm not even gonna have anything with sugar for like three days before the test lol!
