How do you clean toys?

Ive got 2 questions for you ladies.

1. How the heck do I clean all Claire's plush toys that hang from her play gym, carseat, stroller, ect?

2. How often do you clean your little ones toys?

I have a baby safe spray cleaner (Dapple) and I spray her plush toys, then take a wet paper towel and scrub them a bit, then air dry. Everything gets a good clean once or twice a week, more if it's fallen on a dirty floor or something!

Mine aren't into toys yet but we've pre-washed a bunch and just threw them in the wash even if the tag said not to. Everything survived! I'll be washing stuff that gets ridiculously boogery, that the dog gets super gross, or that lands in a lead-dust-filled corner.

I've been wiping them off with vinegar water but now that we take them out of the house I'm worried that's not enough.

I handwash them in a little tub with cool water. But... I can see myself throwing them in the wash in the near future. Anything hard plastic I was with dish soap.

Spaking of washing toys, I'm also trying not to freak out tooooo much about germs. I dunno, I was at a coffee shop today that is kid-friendly and has lots of toys for everyone to play with. Some kid handed Elaina a toy and before I could stop her it was in her mouth. EWwwww I doubt it has ever been cleaned and a ton of kids have played with it. Then I dropped her own toy on the floor but gave it back to her anyway. Do I sound insane or does that sound appropriate? I have anxiety sometimes so I am trying to push my comfort levels a little. I guess a few germs here and there can't be too terrible?

Oops...I replied to the other thread Smile

Hilary, I don't worry too much about germs. I think it's good for kids to be exposed to them so that they can build up an immunity. Plus, she should be getting a lot of your immunities through your breastmilk. I mean, I probably wouldn't want a sick kid to be sneezing on Evelyn or anything, but I don't get too worried about exposure to germs when we are out and about.

I agree with Carrie. For the most part I don't worry about germs when out except at the doctor office or if I see a visibly sick kid. I give her back things that drop on the floor at home but try not to when we are out.

oh jeez all of you who wash toys once a week are giving me a complex Wink I do 6 loads a week as it is....I can't add toys haha. We don't really have plush toys around much - I have one that sings and makes noise he likes....I've never washed it....besides a damp cloth once when he spit up on it. At home I pick things off the floor often and give them back to him. My dogs and kids aren't generally in the same room, if something falls on the floor in the "dog" rooms then I do wash it as the floor in there tends to have more dog hair/dirt even though I vacuum and mop often.

I try not to let them play with toys at the doc's office.....but my 2 year old saw all the books and was really upset I wouldn't let him read them. UGH. I'm really not a germ-phobe but the doc's office makes me cringe!

Katie- I've never cleaned all of her's, just one here and there when I know she got it really slobbery or the dog tried to picK it up. Just started thinking about it because we went to a buffet place on Sunday and I think she dropped every toy we brought on their disgusting floor.

I put the plush toys in the washing machine, on the gentle cycle and let them air dry. I don't do anything with my older kids' toys, but baby toys you just put them in the tub with a cap ful of clorox and that should do the trick!

I'm so peed off with what's happening with our FB group!! I can't even get a screenshot of anything because my posts just never show up! I type everything out and when I press send it thinks for two seconds and my stuff goes away! Please KUP if anyone gets this fixed! I love our FBV group because I can get on that every day unlike P.O, I can only get on here when I'm at work!
