I think I am getting a doula!

I am so excited!!! So DH and I really wanted a doula to support us both during the labour, especially since we aren't asking any family to attend the birth at all. They are really expensive here though it seems (well upwards of $500) and just not something we could afford. Well, I follow a local mom entrepreneur on facebook (she makes natural baby care products) and she posted tonight saying she just finished her DONA International doula training and is looking for some more hands on experience, so she's offering her services FOR FREE Biggrin I've already spoken with her a couple times when buying her products so I know her a little bit, and she seems really nice. I am so excited because DH and I are meeting up with her on Wednesday to chat about what we are hoping for at the birth. However she told me that if I happen to go into labour before then to call her anyway and she will still come by and help us Smile

Yay! I feel like this was almost meant to be, in a way! I am feeling even more confident now that I will get my natural birth Smile

Hilary - that is AWESOME! After talking to my DH last night I fully realize that I have to have a doula in order to VBAC...he just doesn't think a VBAC is that big of a deal and isn't sure I can do it since I had to have a csection last time. He isn't being rude, just honest.

I'm so happy and excited for you that its free and you and your DH both agree!

That is awesome!!! We are in the Process of getting one too - often the new ones will do it for very cheap (50 bucks) as they are looking for more experience. It is a great idea I think and I am so glad we are getting one!! We hope to get one that will come to our house a few times after to help with breastfeeding etc.

I spoke with her this morning and it went well Smile DH and I are both meeting with her tomorrow night to talk about what we are looking for and how we want her to support us. So happy we found her!

Good luck and hope everything goes well when you meet with her. My sons friends mom is a doula. I spoke to her on the weekend about it, she says she has been fairly busy with it. I think its a newer thing here. But she says things go smoothly during the labor/birthing process. She has yet to have a screaming mom when she is present, so that must be a good sign!
