I know what you mean about the timing. I'm not there yet, but eventually, when DH is finished with his master's and his unemployment stops, he will have to find a job and I will have to find child care for Evelyn. Sad part is, I'm worrying about it already and it's about 6 months away.
What is your profession? I can't seem to remember. Will it be hard to find something where you are living now?
I am a pharmacist. Usually its easy to find a job just not necessarily hours or location you want. I found an opening 45 min away which pre Claire would have been fine to start out until something better showed up but DH's job requirements make me basically a single mom as far as day care or nanny is concerned so I am not comfortable with being that far away. He can not leave to go get her unless it was an absolute emergency and even then it would be entirely possible that he could be hours away and/or unreachable. On top of that he does not know what time he has to show until the night before and works 10-12 hour days plus studying when he gets home so he can't be depended on to pick her up or drop her off. Makes it pretty easy to understand why I haven't been in a rush to go back to work, right?
I know what you all mean about the difficulty of timing new work and child care. I think I want to return to full time (rather than my current per diem position) but whenever I start researching child care options in our area, I start to feel overwhelmed. DH stays with DS when I work a weekend shift so we've been able to get by without outside child care help. My hospital does not have another full time opening right now. Since I'm not wanting to search and start fresh elsewhere, I will probably stay put in my current position for now.
It has been quiet around here so people must be busy. Anyone doing anything fun or interesting? I'm going to take DS tomorrow to our local community center to check out their indoor playground for ages 1-5. There are some others in the area but their entrance fees seem high (about $10) for a little one who probably can't use all the equipment or play as long as some of the older kids. Our community center is only $3 and has pretty limited hours but I figure it's worth trying at least once. Probably a germ fest this time of year, oh well. DS had his flu vaccine and probably needs to be exposed to some more cold viruses before he enters preschoolIt's been so rainy and chilly so I haven't been getting outside as much and we are getting cabin fever.
Things have been really boring around here. We have nothing on our social calendar and it's just too cold to do much of anything. Cabin fever is definitely starting to get to me. I'm ready for spring! I've been slowly working on some projects around the house (mainly painting). I'm really tired of the same old, same old.![]()
Sorry you're feeling stir crazy. At least you're getting some projects done. I'm having a hard time getting motivated to do even the day to day stuff (laundry, etc)...these dark winter days really slow me down.
Well I kind of called it. DS came down with a cold a few days following our trip to the indoor playground. But he had a blast running around with the different push and ride toys they had there. This cold is fairly mild compared to previous ones, at least he seems to be breathing okay. Unfortunately we won't go this week if he is still has a runny nose and sneezing, but the weather has been somewhat mild so we've been able to get outside a couple of days.
Aw, I'm sorry your little guy is under the weather. Evelyn has not been feeling well, but I think is has more to do with teething. She is fussy and clingy and having little bouts of diarrhea and barely wants to eat anything. Today she threw up all over her car seat when she and DH were out and about. I'm hoping it was just a one time thing. We're just giving her plenty of fluids and keeping an eye on it for now.
Sorry, I've been so busy being back at work and all that I haven't been on here much. We are enjoying the milder weather and sun and have even been to the playground once. There's still a bit of snow but DS loves running around outside and it makes him nice and tired. Thank god no colds here but we are up for the 1 year shots tomorrow - NOT looking forward to that!
Carrie - Poor Evelyn! I hope she feels better when the teething calms down.
Elle - Glad your son has been getting some outdoor time in the milder weather & that you have no recent colds in your house. Hope his one year shots go okay. I think DS got three shots at his last appointment so he had a bandage on each arm and one thigh - he looked tough![]()
