After almost 3 weeks of itching I have found out I might have cholestasis.
Itching started out just on my belly and then spread almost everywhere except the bottoms of my feet and palms of my hands which is apparently the big sign that it might just be more than itchy skin but as of yesterday the bottoms of my feet started itching so I called L&D at Nellis Hospital and was told to come in. Got hooked up to the fetal monitor and contraction monitor and had blood taken but the lab only does the bile test once a week so the OB started me on meds for Cholestasis and twice weekly non-stress tests and once weekly AFI (Amniotic fluid index) until they decide for sure whether or not I have it. Liver tests, AFI, and Non-stress test were all good last night but apparently fetal monitoring doesn't really mean much because baby can go down hill in a matter of hours with cholestasis. Have another Non-stress test and an OB appt on Thursday but that seems so far away right now.
So, needless to say, I'm very worried but doing everything I can to stay calm and adjusted my diet and am doing my kick counts religiously. Has anyone else ever dealt with this? From what I read its kinda rare, 1 in 1000 pregnancies.
Oh I'm sorry to hear this, Becky, it must be terribly uncomfortable. I think one of the women on the multiples board was dealing with this a while back. No good. On the positive side, you're already at 32 weeks so even if early delivery becomes necessary when it otherwise wouldn't be ideal, the baby will be perfectly fine.
I have never heard of this either. It sounds very odd and rare... I sure hope it's something else entirely for you! I know you're kind of stuck to the base, but is there any way that you can go to another hospital here and get a second opinion, or is your insurance only compatible with the hospital on base?

oh that is so stressful!!! I'm really glad your doctors are on top of this. Are you jaundiced at all?
I guess its too early to tell but are they going to induce you early? Its great they are monitoring you so closely so if anything happens they can deliver the baby right away. you were so smart to take your itching seriously! I probably would have ignored it.
Baby #3 due July 6 2013
They did say if my blood test comes back positive they will induce me at 36 weeks because it is safer for baby to be out early. I'd rather she bakes a little longer but will be fine with 36 weeks if that's what's best. Just trying to stay positive and hope I don't have it afterall.
