Moving forward with the frenectomy **Updated Page 3**
Jonah will be 4-weeks on Friday and we are not resolving the feeding issues. He's still so small and we don't think he is gaining weight like he could be (barely 7lbs). Also, I am having so much pain while feeding, I dread it each time! We think it is because of his short frenulum (tongue tie). I can get him latched but then he slips off and ends up right on the nipple. I've been pumping after he feeds to supplement and I get almost 4 oz! Poor guy gets so tired when he feeds from all the multiple times I have to relatch him. If this was my first baby, I would have quit breast feeding because it's been so painful and difficult. But since I had such a great feeding experience with DS1, I really want to try & work through this.
Dh & I have been really researching it and praying about it. We also have been trying everything (multiple visits with the lactation consultant, $50 nursing pillow, read several books) and it keeps coming down to this.
So Thursday we have an appointment with an ENT. If the ENT agrees that clipping it will help, then he will do it in the office that day.
I'm just so worried about the recovery and I don't want my baby to be in pain. From what I've read, it's a simple & low pain procedure and most babies can start feeding within a few hours. But some babies take a few weeks to get used to their new tongues. I struggled enough with the circumcision that I don't want him to go through any more cutting :( But if it means he will be able to breast feed better and gain more weight , then it's worth it.
