Default My 6 week PP checkup!

Hey girls! Tuesday I went in for my 6 week postpartum check-up... and all is well! I had DD and Trystan with me of course (thankfully the other two were in school!) and all of the nurses were just gushing over T! The doc asked me if I was finally done having babies, and I sadly said yes. It's still saddens me that I won't be having any more babies, but oh well. I told her that DH is planning on getting the snip, but until then we need to be safe, so she put me on the mini pill, which is basically regular BC but it's made for women who are exclusively BF (for thos of you that don't know lol!). It will take a month to kick in, but we've been DTD for three weeks now anyway and just using the "pull out" method! Anyway, she checked me and said everything looked great. I've lost 20lbs since birth (I'm sure it was more, but I was super bad over the holidays!). I had started the atkins diet on the 1st, but then stopped because I kept reading that the induction phase (where you can't have more than 20 carbs a day) was bad to be on when you're BF. I still have a lot of weight I want to lose and now I'm not sure how to. Any suggestions that won't affect my BM?

You could still go low carb just not that low. I would/will stay around 80-100 carbs when I get the okay from my OB in 2wks. Also adding exercise regularly will help weight loss. If not now then when you are able to go induction phase.

Sounds like a good checkup! I would recommend sticking to 80-100g carbs or less a day too. It worked well with me during my pregnancy.

I agree with the others that you can still go low carb. The weight won't come off as quickly, but it will still come off. Or you could start out eliminating one bad food at a time. Like first cut out all sugar...and I mean added sugar, not the sugar that occurs naturally in fruit and dairy products. Then after a week or two, start cutting out grains, especially wheat. I don't eat sugar or grains but I still get plenty of carbs in dairy, fruit, sweet potatoes, and veggies...and I have already lost all my preg weight plus 5 pounds. Of course, I think that has a lot to do with breast feeding and forgetting to eat (or just not finding time!!)

Great appointment! I agree with the other ladies on the weight loss suggestions. Keep in mind too that just a little bit of exercise like walking helps your body metabolize food better and helps with any diet. I'm sure you will find a way to lose the weight

My MW said it takes a week for the mini pill to kick in! DH already got the snip, so we are just riding out the two months until he gets the all clear from the doc.

I lost 20 lbs too and have a good 18 to go. I started my old workout routine again! It's the only way I could think to do it.

Wow, you took two kids to you PP appt.? I wasn't sure how that would work for me, so I had my mom come with me haha. How'd you do it?

Just a week? My doc told me it takes a whole month to kick in and to use back up until then! Arrggg lol! How did your DH do with his vasectomy? I got all of the info for my DH yesterday, and he really doesn't want to do it (confusing to me, as he DEFINITELY does not want any more children, but he doesn't want to do it because he's being a baby about it). They do the "no scalpel" vasectomy, which is supposed to be much easier than the traditional route, but still. How was his recovery time?

Taking the kids was no problem! You know, baby just lays there lol, and my DD is really well behaved. She just took her little animals with her and sat in the chair in the room with me. It was funny though, as the doc was doing my exam she was telling my daughter everything that she was doing! She was like, "Now I'm going to touch your mommy's privates, but it's OK for me to do this because I'm a doctor. You should never let anyone else touch your privates!" I thought it was too funny!
