Name ideas

My DH loves the name Penny...he has always planned to name his daughter that. Guess he never imagined his future wife not liking it as much as him. So in order to compromise and get this child named I told him I would consider it as a middle name...however, we can't figure out a first name that goes with it. Any suggestions? He may be open to using Penelope as the middle name...we'll see.

Wow that is tough as I am already struggling with the same problems. I like Penelope as a middle name a little better though. Do you like Madison or Autumn? Mia? Riley? Leah?

I think I have to agree with you as I don't really like the name Penny either. I think a compromise of using Penelope as a middle name is a good idea. Then if he wants to call her Penny he can. I will have to think of some first name suggestions. I'm kinda at a blank right now.

I love Penelope! I think that would be so cute! I think if you use it for a middle name, you should pair it with something short for a first name, like Ada, or a one syllable (Claire?) since Penelope is so long already.

All of the names you said are either family members or close friends.

That's also hard...he also wants Chloe, Mikayla, and some other name...all of which are cousins.

For a middle name we are going with DH's grandma's name. I like the spelling Emmeline, although she spelled it Emolene. I like Emmeline bc you can shorten it to Emmy or Emme.

Oh wow, you know people with all those names? I wanted to name our daughter Autumn, but DH vetoed it. Sad Do you like Raelynn? I like that but he vetoed it too. Sad

I hate the logistics of finding a name. It's so hard to choose something that some family member hasn't already used. If he likes Mikayla maybe he could go for Makenna? I wanted to name our daughter Makenna but DH said no way because he associated it with a drug addict girl that was in his high school class.

Claire...awww....one of our favs! Smile

I am starting to HATE the naming process.....who am I kidding, I've been hating it for months.

Ugh, I hate the naming process too! There are two names we both are liking right now... one I'm super attached to. Hopefully one of them will stick... but I'm keeping them to myself right now. Wink

Penelope Claire is cute and you could call her Claire and DH could call her Penny if he wanted to. I know some people don't like calling their child by their middle name though.

I LOVE that name...hmmmm....Emmeline Penelope...can I steal it? LOL

Not a huge fan...and I feel guilty saying it since you like it. LOL

I offered Makenna before. I went through etsy and read off every girl name I came across on a diaper bag or burp clothe. LOL

This...we have one name that we both really like - but he won't just agree for sure until we go through every last name. And then last night he pulls out the whole "I really want Penny still" thing. So its back to square one.

Yes, you can steal it! I wouldn't have mentioned it if I wasn't cool with it.

No worries on Raelynn. Picking a name is soooo subjective, as we ALL know. Smile

yes, and just when I think we have a name, someone vetoes it and we are back to square one too. So frustrating!

I've actually suggested Emelyn before as well as Emmalynn but he always says no - maybe your spelling will change his mind - LOL.

I'm eager to know what your secret name is now...LOL.

Haha, not that I'm afraid anyone will steal it... I mean, would it really matter if our daughter's had the same name! I'm more afraid I will jinx it... haha. Paranoid! Two names in the mix, and they are somewhat similar. I sure hope one sticks. As soon as I have a resounding YES from DH, I will be sharing for sure!!!!! Smile

Same here...if it was FOR SURE that it was our name I would tell people. But I don't want to tell the world and get negative feedback and second guess ourselves.

Like one name we both liked was Bristol - but you can imagine the feedback we got on that one.

And it is a teacher's nightmare- we get kids like this who don't know thier 'real' name, or refuse to respond to it. I am required by law to use the legal first name on all paperwork. You would be amazed how many parents (and kids) get ticked off over this!

I really like Penelope. I would use it!!! Wink

Our emergency girl name is Claire. We have always loved it.

I love Bristol and would use that too!

I still love Deacon....DH is on the fence with it. This is the hardest decision EVER! We have several in the running. I would choose Deacon if it were 100% my choice.

Good to know. We don't really want a name that we use the middle name instead and this just solidifies that.

Nope - just a conservative part of the US where Sarah Palin is well known Smile I like her, but don't want people to think I've names my child after her child.

We don't have a name either. I feel like I am always looking at names now. Reading the paper, at my kids school, on tv.... =/ Ugh, I just want to be done already!!

I like the old names.... Have you looked here?

I love this! I definitely like Penelope as a first name and if DH wanted to call her Penny for short, he could. I would call her Penelope though. I'm not a huge fan of nicknames, but DH is. All of his siblings have nicknames and me and my sibs all have names that don't lend themselves to a nickname. Jeez...people will call her whatever they want though. We announced our name a long time ago (Evelyn) and people are calling her Evie already.

oh the joys of naming lol This time has been the hardest. We agreed with our other two- the name I like he says he doesn't like very much. The name he likes I don't like and we can't use them together and compromise cause they start with the same letter.
My son wants Evie- which we like but his close friend little baby sister who is like 9 months old is named Eve- and its too similar for me.

I don't share my name , I have to a couple people and either get no response or that they really like it lol which it will be my baby so I will name her whatever I want . Just have to get hubby on board with my name choice!!

Yep - over and over. Dh even looks at names from the 1800's just to get unique ones - LOL.

We talked about going to a nice dinner Saturday night and just going through all our names until we get one we both like and agree on. I hope it really happens that way.

I don't have much to add- Penny is cute but I can't think of many names to go with it using it as a middle name. Penelope flows much better, IMO. Good luck!

That sounds nice! I can't remember- are you wanting to have a name definitely confirmed soon, or are you okay with waiting until baby gets here to decide for sure? Enjoy your dinner!

I want it confirmed soon....its getting so frustrating to not know. Even if we stick to not sharing it with anyone at least I want to know it. I am going to start counting every day how many different people ask me her name or offer me suggestions (IRL of course) and then show him WHY I want to know.

I love all the old ones too. I like Sadie, Minnie, Hattie, etc. He's not having it.

I named Violet & am crossing my fingers it doesn't get shortened to Vi. That sounds like one of your friends weird, old great aunts or something. ugh.

Ed & I both love Clementine, but are terrified of CLEM so that's been out for a long time.

See we have a few that I love that people would shorten and I don't like the nicknames either. Its soooo hard! I'm a total name shortener...like if you name can be shortened, I'll call you that. Jennifer = Jenn, Melissa = Mel, Melanie = Mel, Kimberly = Kim...its just a bad habit I do whether the people go by it or not. ROFL

I think it's just a habit to shorten someones name. I find that people will even shorten my daughters name from Brynna to just Brynn. Like it's too much of an effort to say the "uh" at the end....lol.

I agree Jessicah.

My dad is from Canada where Leslie is a man's name. So my dad & grandpa are both Leslie's & I am too, but people called my dad Les so when people shorten my name to that it makes me think of my dad when I hear it.

I NEVER let people shorten my name to Kathy. When I was younger, I just wouldn't respond, but as I matured, I just let people know that my name was Kathryn. the only people who got away with it were they elderly, I always felt it was disrespectful of me to correct them....

It does stink how a perefectly beautiful name can be ruined by a horrible nickname, though!

I would actually call you Kate...but mainly because Kate is one of my favorite girl names and I am trying to convince DH to let me name her Catherine/Catharine/Kathryn Smile

I love all of these girl names. Before we found out Connor was in fact a Connor we had a girl name that I am still in love with and call future imaginary child it lol.

I love Penelope so much... I was trying to convince dh if we had a girl we could name her Beatrix lol he was like no.

But we did agree on Gillian which surprised me lol. I can't wait to see what everyone decides on!!

My full name is Teresa and there were plenty of times people wanted to call me Terry, which I always hated. I guess I think it sounds too masculine. It wasn't until high school that someone suggested "Tess" and that is a nickname that I love.

For our daughter my husband hesitated to name her Corinna because he thought people would shorten it to Corry (which neither of us like), but as parents we do have some control over nicknames, at least until they get into school. We always just call her Corinna, but the nickname that her grandparents like to use is "Ninna" which I'm okay with, but it's just going to be their special nickname.

If you're okay with "Penny" as a nickname for your husband to use, maybe you can find a longer name that could be shortened to Penny besides Penelope... it could even have the "pen" at the end or somewhere in the middle.... if I think of something good, I'll let you know.

Deacon is still my all time favorite pick. We get so many compliments on his name and it suites him perfectly. Only one person said they didn't like it but its only because he grew up baptistn and only knew deacons from church. Lol

Dinner was good, I think dh was surprised that I really brought a long list of names sort through. We did eliminate penny and Penelope, even though you can tell he is a little bummed about it.

I busted out a long list of names that I had found last week and we went through them all and he picked out his favorites. Then we went through and eliminated some more off the new list until we were down to a few of our favorites.

We narrowed it down to our top three and then our top two. We brought in the big guns and text our moms. They both agreed on name A even though they loved them both. So we decided to text our closest friends and siblings and get their opinions. Every single one of them said name B = LOL! So now we have two great names, I prefer B, Dh doesn't know which one he prefers and is ready to give up and let me decide. However, I really want him to be in love with the name so I'm not ready to throw in the towel. We'll see.

I am scared to post the names until we decide - that's why I am going with A and B - lol. I don't want to jinx anything - especially name B - Ha!

ETA - here are the names that didn't make the cut that I love:

Bristol
Allison
Emerson
Carson
Peyton
Evangeline
Cadence
Katherine
Ella
Catherine
Kathryn
Olivia
Emily
Charlotte
Lily

Lillian
Adeline

Reese
Olivia River
Lillian

At least you've made some progress!! My DH was pretty laid back with names. Unless he absolutely hated it and he was sure to let me know. He pretty much let me have my way with naming Brynna and Ryan. He liked the names and said that if that's what I wanted then that's what we would name them. I can't wait to hear which name you've picked Smile
