Not a big surprise...

but I failed my 1-hour glucose test.

I'm feeling so much better since I changed my diet, therefore, I am a little glad the test confirmed it for me.

The only thing is they will not "officially" diagnose me with GD w/o failing the 3-hour too

Saturday at 8am I have to go into the lab after fasting for 12-hour and drink the sugar drink. Then I have to stay there and get my blood drawn every hour for 3-hours! I'm scared because I got so sick after the 1-hour and I know this is going to be brutal.......

That's kinda crazy. They know you have it. Why make you drink sugar which is going to jack your blood sugar up and isn't good for you or baby? That doesn't make any sense. I am sorry that you're going to have to go through that ordeal.

did you have GD with your other pregnancy? I'm not sure where you are weight wise, but a few weeks on your new diet could allow you to pass the 3 hour if you were only borderline to begin with. You should be REALLY proud of yourself for the changes you have made. Even if you don't pass I'm confident you will do a good job managing it!!

I don't know how you feel about supplements, but cinnamon has been shown over and over to help reduce glucose levels. You have to take it as a supplement because the amount you'd have to eat is a couple tablespoons. You could ask your doctor about it. It's just cinnamon, so I would imagine it's safe for pregnancy. The effect is not dramatic, i think its only about 10-15 points, but for a borderline person that might be just enough!

Best of luck Saturday!

I don't really know your whole history, but I think your new diet is great & you are kicking some serious butt on it. I read about it yesterday. Congratulations on your new-found energy Biggrin

Good luck Saturday.

Good luck Saturday. Have you considered just keeping the GD diet and refusing the 3 hour test? I know some OBs will let you do that and they treat you as if you have GD even though there were no "offical" confirmations.

I never thought of that.....I may see. When I spoke with her about it she said I can't get all the help from the nutritionists, ect until I fail the 3-hour.

I have no history of diabetes and never had it with DS. I did a huge health screening through work about 6-weeks before I got pregnant and the nurse said I was in excellent health. I have always been a runner (ran cross country in high school and college) and was normal BMI when I got pregnant. I was up 25 lbs until I started this diet, now I'm only up 21lbs. This is all weird to me.

My doc said it can happen to any pregnant women

Great suggestion w/the cinnamon..I'll have to try that!

I had it with my DD. We have no family history of diabetes and I was in good shape when I got pregnant with her. It's just the luck of the draw I guess.

I had to do the same thing with DD, and it is brutal! Just make sure you take a book or something to help you pass the time! I'm sure you'll be fine, just like I was... I swear they do some of these tests just to torture us pregos more!!

Sorry hun! How did the 3 hour go? Hopefully just a little change to diet and exercise will take care of everything. My friend was also diagnosed with GD, and her daughter was born a little late and weighed a perfect 7 lbs 2 oz, and she got everything back on track with diet and exercise. KUP!
