Not getting my way...

So for months I've had my mind made up that I was going to try and have a natural birth in the hospital. I feel well prepared for everything, but with this incessant back pain I've been having, I don't know if natural childbirth is going to be possible. I cry out in pain every time I try to shift in bed, roll over, sit up... pretty much anything. This pain is so excruciating I don't know what to do. I can't imaging trying birth naturally and deal with this back pain at the same time... I know I won't be able to handle it. Im so upset, I don't know what to do...

Oh no!!! I'm so sorry to hear that. I know what you mean about really wanting a natural birth, I do too.

Do you know what is causing the pain? Is the baby in the wrong position?

I feel that way too Krystal!! Sometimes I get a really bad contraction and literally think "Wow... I forgot how much this hurts... don't know if I can make it naturally!" I do still think I could do it with a real birthing tub... but I have my doubts regarding a regular bathtub.

Krystal honestly, just play it by ear. NO ONE will think you are a failure if you get an epidural. I struggle with those feelings too. "other women can birth naturally... why can't I cope with the pain??? Why aren't a strong enough?"

is there anyway you could have a water birth? It might help the back pain. Try not to think negative thoughts. See yourself getting through it, and if labor day comes and you need pain relief DO NOT feel guilty about it! You need to do what is right for your body and your birth.

I agree with Carolyn. Just take it one step at a time. When your in labor you get that adrenaline rush/high and it does wonders for labor,at least for me.

Have you looked into a chiropractor? It just might help.

I agree with the others. Take it a step at a time and try not to put too much pressure on yourself to have a certain outcome. I'm sorry you're suffering with the back pain. I have had a lot of back pain lately too and it can really put a damper on your spirits.

Maybe by the time you are in labor Trystan will be in a better position and you will be more comfortable. Don't rule out a natural birth or an epi at this point and take it all as it comes.

You know I want a VBAC but have a schedule section on the books. I figured each day will come and when/if I go into labor I will see how I feel right then and if I am up to a VBAC or I ask for a csection. Either way by the end of the day I will have my LO in my arms - meds or no meds.

Oh no, I hope that is not a precurser to back labor! I have heard that it is your body's way of preparing you for labor pain, so maybe you will get "used" to it, and it won;t be so bad? Does you Hospital have tubs? I found that warm water REALLY helps. You could always try the shower in the room, if you are not hooked up to anything.

This!!! Don't beat yourself up over it. Labor isn't an easy task, otherwise the men would do it haha. But in all seriousness, just listen to your body and so long as you and baby come out of it ok, you can't ever regret how it played out. :bighug:

No, he's in the perfect position he's supposed to be in... head down and facing back... that's what's so frustrating!

No, my hospital is not set up for them. I'm sure I could look into renting one, but at this point I just can't afford anything extra. They'll let me use the shower, but I can't be hooked up to anything, so that's another thing that scares me. If it gets too intense and I don't have at least one bag of fluids in me, then I can't get the epi until then. But this being my 4th baby, I'm sure he'll come quickly, as all of my labors get faster and faster... so I'm just stuck. I know by the time I get to the hospital I'll need to have my mind made up in which direction I want to go, because I probably won't have hours to lay there and decide. It will either be get the IV, start the fluids, and get the epi... or forgoe it all, shower, move around, and cope with the pain!

No, and I really need to. I've just been so busy with my shower, Halloween, and work, I haven't given it a second thought. I'll check on this today!

So sorry you have to deal with this!!! Mine comes and goes, getting DH to give me a good massage definitely helps! It's especially bad at night and some nights I cannot lay down and have to sit up straight all night. Between the back pain and insomnia, some days get pretty miserable. I would also recommend a chiropractor or a good massage.
