NT scan yesterday + dr's gender guess!

Sooo, I had my NT scan yesterday and I was so nervous. This was the appt when we initially found out something was wrong with our son during my last pregnancy. Oh my gosh, I thought I would pass out waiting for the sonographer. I kept expecting the worst and then trying to figure out how I was gonna deal with it when they told me the bad news. Ah, my mind is jacked up sometimes.

Anyway, the sonographer and the dr. both did ultrasounds and everything looks great with the baby! Hallelujah! The nuchal fold measured 1.4 (they said anything below 3 is good; the dr. said 1.4 was "better than perfect") and everything looks healthy. :woohoo: AND, the dr. even made a gender guess - I was kind of surprised, but he said he is 80% accurate at this stage. It looks like we may be having a little....

GIRL! I knew it! I have had a girly feeling all along. Wink But mostly I am just so very thankful that everything appears to be healthy so far. I had to have bloodwork but the dr. said he doesn't expect there to be any problems.

I am still cautious, but very happy that everything went great yesterday.

Wow!!! That is so awesome! I'm so happy for you! What a relief. I too had a bad first U/S with my son and there was some spinal fluid buildup on his skull and 99% of the time it resolves itself (which it did) but I still had months of worry waiting for my next U/S. I have my U/S tomorrow and I am manifesting the same results as you! (girl and all! Wink )

So happy for you! Congratulations!

Yaahhhh for a great appt! I have to ask though... what is this scan that all of you seem to be having? Is it just an U/S to make sure baby is measuring where they should be? I had an U/S around 9 weeks just for that reason, not for anything else, and won't have another U/S until 18-20 weeks where they do all the measuring and whatnot... what am I missing out on??!!

Mine is genetics testing... they don't do baby measuring U/S here...

The NT scan is part of a 1st trimester screening that is done by a perinatologist (high-risk dr.) if you are over 35 (which I am), and I especially wanted it done this time because of my past loss. If you are under 35, doctors don't usually suggest it (at least they didn't to me when I had my first son). It is a 2-part screening test, consisting of an ultrasound to measure the fluid on the back of the baby's neck, called the nuchal fold (a high number could suggest Downs syndrome or other abnormalities) + bloodwork. Then they put both of these results together to determine your personal risk of having a baby with abnormalities or certain conditions like Downs or Trisomy 18.

I'm glad everything looks great! I can't believe your doctor made a guess on the gender! It'll be interesting to see if it's correct!

What a great appointment! We're all jealous of you! haha I don't get mine until 18wks but that's when we will find out gender. That's so cool that they predicted it. Hope it's true! Seems like we all want pink.
Congrats!

I know, here, they won't even try . I had an NT when they were doing the beta testing of the proces with DD and the girl said it was EVMS policy. Grrr..... Maybe I can convince them to take a peek....

I'm glad to hear everything looked good, Kim! I know your mind will probably never be completely eased after what you've been through, but I hope this helps with the worry a little.

So glad to hear you had a good appointment and that everything looks good! And congrats on your (maybe) girl! That is so exciting!!

I will be having this same scan on the 3rd. I'm very excited to see something because at this point I haven't had an u/s or been able to hear a heartbeat or anything to tell me that all is well.

Bless your heart Carrie, that is a long time to wait! I hope this next week passes quickly for you, but I'm sure everything is just fine with the little one! Good luck and keep us posted.
