Possible name change?

So now that I'm getting down to the wire time-wise, I've really been questioning this baby's middle name. DH chose it of course, as he's a huge comic book fan, and Magnus is the original name of Magneto from the X-Men series. I didn't really care before because I was just so upset that this baby wasn't a girl (sorry... I just love girls!) that I let him choose the name... but now I'm really re-thinking it. I would love to give him DH's first name as a middle name (Donovan) because I think it sounds so much better, and I think it would be nice... but he absolutely refuses because his first son's middle name is Donovan, and he thinks that will be taking away from him in some way (reminder: DH has two sons with his first wife that live with their mom in Idaho). Any thoughts on that? Do you think he has a point, or is he being silly about a middle name that no one will really care about anyway? Since he was so against it, I started looking for other name possibilities, especially names with just one syllable, as I think it would sound the best with Trystan (something like Blaze?), and our last name has three syllables. Anyway, when I showed him a few that I like, he got all quiet and was like, "whatever you want to do." I hate it when men do that! Don't I have just as much of a right to change my mind if I don't like the name?

You definitely have the right to reevaluate it. I do think he has a small point about using his name...but its not the end of the world either.

And I want to say it again, I love Magnus!

Since his oldest son has the middle name Donovan I personally wouldn't use it. I agree with your DH on it feeling like it takes something away from the older son. I think maybe you need to sit down with DH and discuss changing the name instead of just springing it on him. If I did this to my DH his feelings would be really hurt and that's when I get the "Do whatever you want" response. I think it may go over a little better if you explain to him why you're having second thoughts and maybe ask him if he can come up with any alternatives. I mean there have to be other comic book people with good names...lol

Yes, I would tend to agree with him that you cannot use Donovan. You're right that a one syllable name might flow well but I like the name you already have!

Jessicah, I did sit and talk to him about it first... because at first I told him that I would rather use his name for our son than Magnus. That's when he was like absolutely not. He asked me why I wanted to change the name after all this time, and I just told him my reasoning, that it's our last baby and I don't feel as though I had much of a say... and I think a one syllable name might sound better. That's when I started looking at other options and asking his opinion on some of them, and he couldn't care less. And as far as other comic book names... they've either been used by one of our kids or they're too plain jane for us! Here's the run down lol:

Logan- Wolverine from X-Men

Ian- Ian McKellan played Magneto in X-Men

Alexander (Maximus' middle name)- Lex Luthor's full name, from Superman

Liberty Jean- Liberty was a heroine from an old 50's comic, and Jean Grey, an X-Men character

As you can see, every one of his children have been named after some comic book character! The man is obsessed lol! I love the name Parker, as it's my maiden name (and Peter Parker is Spiderman, so he gets his kicks lol) but he refuses, because he doesn't like my parents! IDK what I'm going to do... but you girls seem pretty gung ho about Magnus, so maybe I'll just stick with it...

We may like it but you're his Mommy and you should choose what YOU like! Sorry for thinking that you just kinda sprung it on him. That's just the way I interpreted it from the original post. And I think he does have his house full of comic book people. Maybe he can compromise if you just don't feel like you can use the name. I will agree with you about Parker. So cute! I love it. He should look at it from the viewpoint that it's an honor to you and not necessarily your parents. We thought about giving Ryan my maiden name for a middle name (Scott) as my Dad has all girls and nobody to carry on the "Scott" name.

May e come up with a few substitutes then wait until you and DH meet Trystan. I'd probably leave Donovan off the list though.

I agree, I don't think using Donovan again is a great idea. But I LOVE the name Parker and I think it's perfect that it incorporates your family and his comic book theme!

I think Trystan Magnus flows well, and I don't know comic books so I would never make that association unless you told me. Trystan Parker is super cute too. I think it is fine to change the name! Hopefully you and your DH come to an agreement. Nothing worse than being on different pages on something so important! I know the feeling!

I think you have the right to change it! you should both agree on a name. I really like Parker too!

I also agree with PP that Donovan shouldn't be an option, great name though!

I'm a huge comic geek.

Magneto's actual name is Max but he has gone by Magnus and Erik...

lol it all depends on the story line and writer lol.

When dh and I were throwing names around we were thinking Bruce (for Batman) I really love Remy as a middle name thats from Gambit's name. We had Reed up there for awhile and we really liked Xavier but in the end we went with Connor because we liked the meaning lol.

Magneto's son's name is Pietro which I think is a cool middle name.

Lol I know, DH says the same thing... depends on the writer! I joked with him about Bruce and Wayne, but he knows there's no way I would go for either one of those names! I'm fine with the comic book line of names, as long as they're not common! I like Remy and Reed though! But with Xavier... you just gave me a new middle name idea lol... BTW, since you're such a comic book fan, do you go to Comic-Con?

Jessicah... no worries! Sometimes men are just too difficult to talk to anyways lol! I really like the name Scott for a middle name... did your DH not want to go for that? I would really like to go with Parker, but our last name starts with a "P" so I don't know if it flows so well!

We decided to go with Andrew because it was a name that my Dad had wanted for a little boy if he had ever had one. He had 4 girls so he never got to use it. So DH and I decided that instead of going with Scott we would go with Andrew instead since my Dad loved the name so much. So either way we went it would be honoring him.

I must say that Trystan Xavier is really cute as well Smile
