I was just wondering if any of you were on progesterone injections. If so, at what week did they stop?
I was on them with my first pg and I got off around 7-8 weeks I think. I never took them past that.
I was on them for Ethan's pregnancy from week 20-36. He was born 9 days early.
Thanks for the information.. Good to know
I'm guessing you are on them? they didn't tell you when they would stop?
Amanda, if you don't mind sharing, what was the reason you took the progesterone injections? I have only just heard that they can be used to prevent preterm labour. I need progesterone suppositories in the 1st tri to prevent m/c and now I am wondering if I needed them in the 3rd tri to prevent the premature birth we had. Not that it matters now I guess. :???:
Jacob was born at 36 weeks and I had PTL from 25ish weeks on. So for Ethan they put me on it. I had some PTL with ethan but not like with jacob. Strangely the MFM doctor didn't think I needed it for Eli or Andrew. It's weird but he turned out to be right b/c they both arrived after their due dates.
*Also a lurker*
I was on progesterone injections twice a week from week 5 through week 33 with my first, and from week 5 through week 17 with my second. They're not fun, but totally worth it.
Yes, I am on the progesterone injections started at 21 weeks because I had a history of cervical failure and with this pregnancy I have been monitored with weekly shots and every 2 weeks U/S. (well U/S up till 28 weeks) My OB said to stop at 36 weeks and the ER doc mentioned that I could stop at 35 weeks. So I am a bit confused and very conflicted as I want to do what is right for my lil guy. He is measuring about 3 weeks ahead as well. For example when I was 33 weeks he was measuring at 35 weeks and 5 days ? and he was 6 lbs and 2 oz.. (some body parts are 36 weeks and his head is 37 weeks) so by now he must be about 7 lbs. I ran out of my meds today and according to my OB I have one more shot to go and I am not sure if that shot will make a difference as I will be 36 weeks. I just feel that at this point that shot may keep him there and he may be ready to come. I don’t know I am confused I just think at this point if mother nature wanting him to come then let it and not control it. (worried about his size and I hope he is ok)
Sorry for rambling on and on
I'd get the shot. You are not full term yet and still at least 2 weeks away. Even if the U/S measures him big it can be off - as I'm sure you have already heard on the boards. It won't hurt to get one more shot (well, you know what I mean) and it will ensure you have done all you could to make sure he is in there as long as he needs to be.
Don't get me wrong, I would be thinking the same as you - what's the point - but its easier for me to say take the shot because I am not in your shoes.
Interesting info... I had never heard of this before!
That's a tough one. I know my doctors won't stop labor after 35 weeks and I see you will be 35 weeks tomorrow. Was it a pain to get the meds? I had to order from a special pharmacy so it took a little while to get.
If I were you at this point(you have one more shot left?) I would think that is fine. Can you ask your doctor aBout it? He may be fine with it.
Era: oops I just re-read your post. I'd call your OB about it.
I'd get the shot, too, if it's recommended. Keep in mind that just because you discontinue the injections, it doesn't mean that labor will start immediately. I was terrified to stop the injections with my first, even though I hated them. I had been receiving them twice a week for 28 weeks, and enjoyed the comfort they brought. The doctor stopped them when I was 33 weeks along, and I went into labor on my own (water broke) at 37w5d. Even with your history, you may stop the injections at 36 weeks and still go to 40 weeks on your own.
Good luck, and merry Christmas!
Thanks ladies for the reply.. It just confusing when two doctors are saying different "stop" dates ;( I really don't want him earlier because I want him to come when he is fully developed i worked so hard to get to this point. I just hate conflicted information. I got my meds and will go with my Ob instead of the er/high risk doc.
