Running

I started running in mid january in an attempt to lose weight. I would like to continue doing it for as long as i can during this pregnancy.

Do you know if, in general, it is okay? at least for the next few weeks until i can get in to see the OB.

I think i remember reading somwhere it was okay if you were running before you got pregnant.

I think the concern is about your internal temp and heart rate for any exercise. Generally they do say that if you were a runner prior to getting pregnant, you can continue but you don't want to push yourself past your comfort zone as it may raise your temp and heart rate to an 'unsafe' level for too long.

Now, if you think about it, women have been doing vigorous exercise throughout pregnancy for ages with little to no ill effect so what's considered unsafe to one person may not be to the another. If you go with the conversation rule, you should be fine.

you can! In fact I just went today & it was a good stress reliever Smile
As long as you feel good and your heart rate doesn't get too high.

I agree with the pp's.

I was running prior to my last pgcy and continued for a while but stopped when I began cramping up between wks 8/9. But many people run and exercise well into their pgcy.

Call the dr if you are still concerned though.

As an avid runner, I am happy to report that you can. They (and I) wouldn't recommend starting a running program while pg but if you were a runner before, you can continue running. Just watch it and don't run when it's really hot out! Temperature is the big concern.

Last fall I was finishing a half marathon and the woman next to me was very clearly about 7 months pregnant. I wanted to give her a medal!

Yay! I thought that was right. Good. I run on the treadmill int he basement so i dont think i'll get too hot. I'll watch myself and be careful.

yep! I swear it made post-birth recovery easier too... I ran up until a week before birth and started a few weeks after.
