The Show? - Way TMI!

So in a previous post I mentioned that last Thursday I felt a gush and found lots of mucus and a little blood in my underwear. It kept going like that on and off till Friday morning. At my appointment on Friday my cervix got checked (almost fully effaced, 1 cm dilated, baby' head very low) which resulted in quite a bit of bleeding along with mucous (small gushes again). The bleeding has tapered off somewhat over the weekend (took about 2 days) but the amount of pink-tinged, otherwise clear mucous I've been getting is crazy! It sort of looks like EWCM - except way more and with a little blood in it.

I don't know if the blood is still from the cervix check or from before that, or what is up with the huge amount of mucous. I am wearing a pantyliner and it went through that, my panties and my pants over night even though I got up several times to pee and wipe. At first I thought I might be leaking amniotic fluid but I *think* it's just very watery mucus.

Today I am having contractions with a little pain (like mild menstrual cramps) and lots of pressure down there, but I haven't bothered timing or anything since they really don't hurt much. Has anyone experienced these crazy amounts of discharge, and if so did you notice any sign of blood? If this is the "bloody show", how long can it possibly last (it's been going on for days now). It's driving me crazy because it makes me think that things may be happening, but... nothing is. It's also embarrassing to go out in public because these gushes have gone through my pants a few times (just a little) and it freaks me out!

Oh, and I'm sure it's not pee.

Has anyone experienced "the show" and what was it like?

Lurker***
sounds like you may be leaking amniotic fluid. A small tear would produce those small gushes. I would call and let your mw or OB know what is going on.
It's unlikely that the spotting is still from a cervical check days ago, it's probably from your cervix dilating

I have had an insane amount of mucusy discharge, but never a spot of blood. I easily go through 4 liners daily and too have woken up at night thinking I was leaking fluid. I have been like this maybe 3 weeks? My midwife said you can lose your plug anytime from weeks before to immediately before labor, but it will replace itself if labor isn't immediate. I'm wondering if it is related to be dilated and effaced... So it just falls out? I know after I use the bathroom... Tmi... I just wipe and wipe, so much mucus. It is really gross! I don't know about blood though, I have never had any blood.

The 'gushes' of fluid I have never had... That does sound worth getting checked in case its a amniotic leak!

I think you may be leaking as well. Losing your plug should not make it look like you wet yourself in public. I agree you should either call or go in ~ do not ignore it. And just bc your contractions aren't that painful time them anyways. My ob made sure I understood that they may not be too bad when it's time to go to the hospital.

I am so glad you decided to go in! Not all contractions are painful. My mom never felt any contractions with me and because of this I was almost born in the car! KUP and wishing you all the best.

I'm at the hospital. They did a bunch of checks but aren't sure if it's fluid still. Baby looks good on ultrasound but the fluid is sort of low. If I was further along they would induce me but they are hesitant this early and because they are not sure if my water really broke or not. They are keeping me over night to run some more tests and do a detailed ultrasound tomorrow. good thing is, no sign of infection or anything.

I'm a little bummed out about it. Wish I could go home and labour there as long as possible when ready. I am scared of being induced (and they better not tell me I can't have the epi if I need to be!!). The OB does think I am going into labour on my own and I am having contractions but they are quite mild so I am not sure. This whole experience is leaving me utterly confused.

Good luck- good to hear no infection and that baby looks good. it sucks they have to keep you overnight- but for the best, they can monitor the situation that way.

Being in limbo like that has to really stink. I hope they can give you an answer today whether it's amniotic fluid or not. Are you still "leaking" anything?

Did you finally get to go home or are they going to keep you and induce labor?

Big hugs! Hope you are doing okay! I defintely understand not wanting induced. I hope you arent leaking and are able to go into labor when you are ready.

I'm glad they are going to keep you though just to be certain everything is fine. But IKWYM about wanting to labor at home.

Are you able to walk around the hospital to just get out of the room?

They haven't figured out if I'm leaking or not. Some of the tests say yes, some no. They think maybe it's one of those tiny tiny leaks. Just had an ultrasound and it shows the fluid is at 6 cm and they wanted to see 7 or above. Sigh. Now waiting for the OB to come and discuss whether I have to be induced or not. Maybe I can talk him into trying walking etc since I am already having contractions. Any tips to get things speeding up? I just wish he'd let me go home. Will let you know what he says.

Walking and bouncing on a ball are good ways to keep things moving along, anything really other than being in bed once you get the go ahead. If you've broken your water you won't be able to go home. I font know how much else you can do since you have an OB. Black and blue cohosh induce labor naturally, but I don't know if ob's usually do that, its more a midwife method. There are different prostaglandin medicines you can insert into the cervix to start labor. They can also put in a foley catheter and inflate the bulb in your cervix to help it dilate. So there are options other than going straight to pitocin, its just what your ob is willing to do! Good luck!

I think I got some results from "curb walking" last night! Gave me some good contractions. I don't know if there's a way for you to do it at the hospital unless they let you walk around the block or in the parking lot, but stairs do the same thing! Just find a sidewalk and walk with one foot on the curb, one on the road. It's a bit of a workout but it sure made a difference for me! Or just go up and down lots of stairs! And I agree with Carolyn, bouncing on the ball is great. Good luck!!

I have never heard of curb walking! I wanna try it. Too bad I live in a hick town that doesn't have side walks! So you just walk along straight with one foot on the curb and one in the road?

Yes!! It looks so weird haha, I'm sure people driving by were looking at me funny. I found it can be a bit hard on my feet, so wear good shoes! And you'll get a good thigh workout from it, haha Smile I ended up getting a lot of the sharp shooting pains, had to stop and bend over at least 20 times!! Then I had cramps all night.
