So AGGRAVATED!!!

Ok when I was pergnant for my little one last year. He took a lot of the calcium from my teeth. So much so that just before I had him one of my teeth cracked on me and the crack caused my tooth to absess. While I was pregnant for him I couldn't have anything done with it. Because I was taking heprein injection and the dentist where I live would not even see me because of it. Last month I started going to a dentist once my ob stopped my injections. Well today I went to a dental appt. I told them that I just found out that I am pregnant. Well low and behold the dentist told me that he could not do any dental work until I am in my second trimester. Well guess what? At the start of my 2nd, I will be back on hep injections and then they will not see me then either. So I am really really aggravated with the whole mess. Every one tells you dental is very important while you are pregnant. Make sure you get your cleanings and dental work done. It is very very important for your health and baby's health. Yadda yadda yadda. But they do not tell you what to do when the dentist will not even see you because of the meds that you have to take for your health during your pregnancy.

I just had to vent. When I started venting about it at the dentist office. He didn't want to hear what I had to say about his practice and dealing with pregnancy. Thanks for reading..

Wow that stinks. So you have to wait another yr to get in to fix your tooth?

Can you OB delay the hep shots one week so you can get the dental work done first? Maybe go in to the dentist at 12 weeks instead of 13 weeks? I dont know. That would really suck to have to wait. Some dental stuff can cause PT labor. Scary stuff.

This is what I was going to suggest too. Book your dental work for the very end of the 1st tri/beginning of the 2nd tri, then immediately after it's done (and healed), you can start the Hep injections. Of course this depends on what sort of work is being done (is it a root canal, or extraction?) It think it would be important to wait until the tissues are healed or nearly healed before starting the Hep. I'm not a dentist, but I was a dental assistant for a few years. Obviously you'd need to clarify this with both your OB and DDS.

Also, does your dentist understand that you need to be on Hep in the 2nd tri? It's pretty standard dental practice to avoid treatments in the 1st and 3rd trimester, but you have extenuating circumstances - you've needed this tooth treated since last year, and it would be dangerous to treat you in the 2nd tri when you're on the Hep. If your dentist knows about the Hep, I would think he/she would've tried to figure out a treatment plan for you, rather than just leave you to be frustrated with it!!

That is the thing. He knows exactly what will be taking place. That is what is so frustrating. I have been calling around to other dentist and talking to them. One told me that all I need to do is get a detailed letter from my OB telling them what kind of antistetic he wants him to use, antibiotics, pain relief and he would be happy to do all of the work that needs to be done before I am put back on the hep injections. I diffently do not have a problem with going to another that is willing to at least try something, instead of just blowing me off. I can not continue to take antibiotics every other week, because my face has swollen up again because of this tooth. Since November I have had to take antibiotics 6 or 7 times already. And that is what really sucks about it all.

That stinks! I hope your OB is able to figure out something that will work with the dentist.
