So peeved (rant)

Went to the Ob yesterday for my first appointment. Number one, I am already past 10 weeks and still haven't even been seen. I went in and was checking in and the lady said my insurance came up pending.. So she had to go ask her manager if they could even see me.. And they said no!!! I started bawling my eyes out. So now I have to wait 3 more weeks!!!! grrrr!

I don't see how this is O.k. . . If you were to go to a normal doctor and your insurance was pending they would take you anyways. But an O.b. won't???!! Isn't that just a little more important?! I am so beyond upset about this. How do I know if my baby has a heartbeat? anything... I have been having really bad cramps and I told the lady at the desk and she says, "well tell the nurse at the next visit". I just do not understand how pregnancy is not a priority over money.

It's sad the american healthcare system is all about money. But it's true. So many people don't pay they have to make sure they get SOMETHING before they even see you. GRRRR THe only way around it is to go to the ER, they have to take you there.

oh that is so frusterating!!!!!! going to an ER without insurance would be tremendously expensive!!! especially if you are then paying an ultrasound fee, and even more so if they order an OB consult for you in the ER. I would wait it out the next three weeks, crazy as it will make you.

im sure your baby is okay! most pregancies progress normally and healthfully. id be very frusterating over the insurance thing too. what does "pending" mean??? awaiting aproval? thats ridiculous! ((((HUGS)))

Thank you Smile yes, pending means I have been approved but I am waiting for a case worker from the insurance company to file my claim and assign me a member number. ( probably a 2 minute process but they must be backed up or something..)

What about a crisis pregnancy center? The ones here have ultrasound equipment. Maybe they would see you?!?!?

That really stinks! How rude you tell them you're having pains and they said that to you. Some people are very insensitive. I think it's ridiculous you couldn't be seen. Why not let you pay the co-pay and then if your insurance doesn't cover send you a bill?? That's sad.

WOW! I can't believe they did not call you tell you. My doc checks the insurance ahead of time and calls to tell you if there is an issue. But to let you go in?!?!?!

So sorry. I hope it gets cleared up soon!

Why do you have to wait another 3 weeks? I would have been on the phone with the insurance company telling them what's going on and that you need them to verify immediately! How frustrating.

How difficult is it to change providers?

Insurance doesn't cover what I want to do, so I'm out-of-pocket anyways. But it seems that if I wasn't happy with my current provider, I'd find someone else.

I guess there is a huge hold up at the insurance company and they gave the doctors office 3 weeks as an estimate.

For the OB? Or the insurance? There is only one other O.B. and I think if I left this one I'd still run into the same problem there. I really actually can't stand this office. I was looking into changing. I just don't know what the process is to do it. I might just call though.
As for insurance, I am getting state insurance. So I can't switch out of that. As much as I'd love to.

That's ridiculous. How long have you had your insurance? I would have stayed right there and called your insurance co. and made them see you. It doesn't even make sense, because there's lots of women that don't have insurance, I'm assuming they have to pay up front before seeing the doc. I guess you could have done that, and then when your insurance came through they would just give you a credit against your co-pays. Don't sweat it, I know you wanted to get checked out and given the OK on baby, but these three weeks will fly by! I'm sure baby is just fine!

*lurker from OCT 2011*

I was in a similar situation......was waiting for preg medicaid to be approved...got a paper in the mail made an appt, went in at 12ish weeks and was told they had approved me for the wrong insurance. Ended up calling and hashing it out with them that day BUT the OB office I wanted to use couldn't get me in as a "new patient" for 4 more weeks. I ended up having my FIRST OB appt at 16 WEEKS. Now 3 weeks later I am only 2 days from my BIG US.

I was lucky enough that we do have a crisis preg center here and I went there and they gave me an early US at 11 weeks where I got to see the HB, I didnt get to HEAR it until 16 weeks......

Wow! I can't believe she wouldn't see you! When I was pregnant with my first, I didn't have insurance in the beginning and I paid a discounted no insurance fee. That is ridiculous! I would be super peeved too.

In fact, I didn't have a very good appt. with my new midwife on the first visit (she didn't even TRY for a heartbeat and I was 8 weeks pregnant). I am seeing a new one next, but that appt. isn't til the 25th, so I'm in waiting mode too.

Sucks! That makes me so annoyed at them! I'm sure you are just fine, but that is just unacceptable!
