I meant jar/homemade foods. I don't consider rice cereal solid as it can also be mixed and given in a bottle... I just choose to give it to Trystan via bowl and spoon because I personally don't want to give him a bottle. I don't want him to associate a bottle with me, I want him to know that when he eats with momma it's from the breast, and that the bottles come from daddy and nana.

I consider rice cereal solid food -- my definition of "solid" is more "other" anything that is not breastmilk or formula. I know some folks have to mix rice cereal with formula/BM for medical reasons but since I don't have a medical reason I consider it "other" and therefore a solid. If that makes sense. But it probably is a grey area. That being said I never did any cereals with Evan so I know nothing at all about them.

The only reason I started Trystan on rice cereal is because he started to eyeball me whenever I would eat food, so I thought it was a good time. I only feed him that once a day, as I still want his primary source of nutrition to be BM. I probably would have rather mixed it in a bottle, but like I said before I don't want him to see me giving him a bottle, I don't want to be associated with bottles in his mind, if that makes sense lol...

Krystal, how did he do using the spoon? Did he open his mouth for you to feed it to him or did you kinda have to coax it in there?

After a few days he's now opening his mouth up for the spoon! He still is learing how to swallow it and not just "thrust" it back out with his tongue, but he's doing such a good job with it!!

Bumping because now T doesn't want anything to do with the rice cereal!!! How strange is this? For the first few days he was all about it, wolfing it down and then when I've tried it the past couple of days he actually cries after the first spoonful and pulls away from the spoon. I haven't tried in the last few days and I think now I'll just hold off on it since he's doing better about BF... but has this ever happened to you BTDT moms? None of my others ever did this?

I have very little experience Krystal so I'm not sure I count LOL but solids weren't smooth for my DS#1. He fought it and it drove me crazy. We didn't start until 6 months and one day he'd eat and the next he'd absolutely refuse. I did my best just to roll with it. If he wanted to eat I'd feed him but I only offered once or twice and then we'd stop or he'd get angry. Really I don't think he routinely ate solids until closer to 9 months and by 10 months he had quit purees all together. He wasn't really baby led weaning we did do purees and there were a few he liked but from 6-9 months the only thing he LOVED was yogurt and even that he'd occasionally refuse. Occasionally it drove me crazy mostly b/c I had a 9 month old that nursed all day (he did STTN though) and I was feeling like maybe I should get a little break but then it seemed one day he just wanted to eat food and it all fell in to place by 13 months he was weaned (no real effort just happened naturally) and he was eating all sorts of things. He's still kind of a picky kid but not unusually so for a toddler I don't think.

I will be curious how Rory does.

I think that is kind of normal Krystal. My cousin's baby is 8 months and she did the same. She was loving solids and then just refused them for a few weeks. She is back to loving them now though. I think as long you are following T's lead, you are doing fine.

I plan to wait until 6 months, but gosh.... he nurses a lot. It's hard not to go ahead and give him some food. LOL
