Too much stuff!
Anyone else feel like their home is overflowing with an influx of new stuff between our little ones' recent birthdays and holiday gifts? Mainly it's the toys that are my biggest issue b/c I'm having a hard time finding room/storage for it all when they are not in use. Plus (and this will probably sound pathetic considering there are so many who go without) I think we just have present burnout. We haven't even opened our Christmas presents from my side of the family yet. Maybe it will change as DS gets older. I requested to not receive anything personally from people (knowing there are a few who would still get me things regardless) or a charity donation instead, but still feel like I ended up opening a lot of presents on behalf of DS b/c he would rather play with an empty box or tissue paper :p Some gave us college fund money for DS which was nice and easy to pack for flight home :) I know people's intentions were good, but I think a few gift items may get returned (people often gave gift recepts with their gifts fortunately) and we will probably make a Goodwill donation with some of his old toys that he plays with less now. In the future I think I will suggest books or clothing if people ask for ideas.
We got a lot of stuff too, but I cleaned house before the holidays and her birthday. My plan is to put some things away and then rotate toys every few weeks. I used to do that in my preschool classroom. On days when I put toys away and brought out new ones, there were literally NO behavior problems because the kids were so engaged with new things. It kept them from getting bored. I actually think my family was pretty well behaved. She did get a lot of things, but not an excessive amount. What are his favorite gifts?
That's a good idea, to rotate toys every few weeks. I guess it kind of happens in a way b/c we don't have room for every toy to be out everyday and DS can only reach so far to grab things out of his toy chests. I definitely notice his interest pick up when I bring out a toy he hasn't seen for a few days. When we got back from our trip, it was as if he was rediscovering all his toys and books again :) His favorite gifts (based on how much he plays with them) are probably his Imaginarium sensory balls, Melissa and Doug stacking cars, and xylophone. However his really favorite things to play with in the house are my cooking pots, the cat's food dish and water fountain (if I would let him) and the tv remote if we forget to put it away :)

Evelyn got a rocking horse for her birthday and she loves it. It drives me crazy because it sings a highly obnoxious song, but I love how much fun she has with it. She's also really into books right now. But she definitely loves the random household objects that she's not supposed to have...like cords, strings, belts, scarves. DH sent me a video of her playing with 2 paper bags today. LOL.
Trystan got a rocking horse as well... He loves it! But yes our house is packed full with way too much crap!
We have a tiny place and our living room/dinning room has been taken over by toys. I try to rotate toys between her room and there since she rarely plays in her room. I might have to put some away in her closet though. Today while trying to organize I set down a bag that had her infant toys and she started playing with them. I thought she was over them months ago.
Some of her new favorites are the M&D shape sorter and ring stacker. She can't put the shapes in the sorter without help but she has figured out how to open it and carries them around. Her all time favorite toy based on how much she plays with it is a butterfly shaped fly swatter that was mine as a kid that I found in a random box of stuff from my mom. She carries it around most of the day.
