Glad to hear from you again Sorry you are having a hard time with weaning right now I don't know if I will have any helpful advice for you as my son weaned when he was around nine months old so probably a big difference between weaning an infant versus a toddler. At this point are you nursing at certain times or just when he asks? I didn't check but have you posted at the breastfeeding boards because someone might be able to help you there.
Ugh it's hard! I weaned DS about 3 months ago when I found out I was pregnant. But I was only nursing once per day before bed so it wasn't as big a deal. Instead of nursing, I held him in my arm with his sippy of milk just like I would have held him for nursing. He had gotten pretty attached to that sippy beforehand so it was a relatively easy transition. Once I called it quits I kept telling him "no let's have a sippy with milk and cuddle instead, ok?" and he was mostly ok with it.
I did cave after 3 days and nursed him one more time... not because HE wanted to so badly but because I started crying every time I thought about it and I was quite "full" and uncomfortable at that stage. It didn't cause a setback though. Went to not nursing after that and after about a week he stopped asking. He has since got quite attached to his sippy with milk
I found it quite hard emotionally but I was pregnant again with some complications and that was my main motivation. I know, it is totally possible to breastfeed while pregnant but I had a subchorionic hemorrhage and just didn't want to take any chances.
Hang in there... it's a tough week or two but it will pass!!
That's so funny you caved ... That's what worked for me! This was like a ten month weaning process and we were also down to once per day. I was very scheduled in the toddler nursing, it wasnt boobs whenever he felt like it, but I felt like that made it hard, too, because he ALWAYS had his nighttime boob. In any case, it was so just not happy for me and I was getting super full boobs, so he nursed one more time. I'm pretty sure we're done now. It's weird for sure!
Yeah it's funny, I was fine for the first two days but then DH brought it up and I started bawling! And went to nurse DS that night. LOL. It really is weird. It was the last true baby habit that we hung on to (me as much as him) so it was definitely bitterwseet.
I'm dreading weaning Claire. She still nurses 3 times a day (Morning, Nap, and Bed) and I have started saying no at other times since the requests are just occasional. We were doing well and then she got sick this week. It is so hard to say no when she is barely eating and has those sad sick eyes.
It was hard, for sure, for a few days. We're done now and that's OK. He is still extra clingy and needs some extra cuddles and stuffs his hand down my shirt a lot more these days, not just at night. But since he was a really slow nurser (~45 min), it has opened up our evenings and put us on a way better evening routine. Especially because he has a twin (who still gets a bottle of milk, but that's quick and she holds it on her own), it was just better to be in a new family evening routine. We're far more consistent now with baths and teeth and books and kisses and actually getting to bed at a reasonable hour.
