Birth Prep

How do you prepare for yourself for birth (if at all)? Do you do any exercises, mental preparation or other things to help you get your head in the game or do you just go with the flow when things happen? For those with scheduled induction or c-section dates, does having a date help you prepare or make you more anxious?

Who's got a birth plan? If you don't mind sharing, what do you feel are some of your most important things in your birth plan?

My biggest *plan* is to avoid a face-up baby birth. (Can't think of the medical term for it right now.) DS1 was, and I think that is why my labor was sooooo long and god awful/painful. Being a FTM, I had no clue that I could have done things to help avoid that, or really, what it even meant! Lol. I've been following the spinning babies site and doing the stretches on the stairs to make sure he has a nice stretched out spot to rest his head. I also got a yoga ball to help my posture while sitting. (Haven't got that out of the box yet, heh heh) I don't have a plan in place for birth. I had one for DS1 and then couldn't stick with it or follow what I wanted. :/

Mia, what are you doing, if anything? Smile

Posterior is so tough! I haven't delivered an OP baby, but this LO was OP for a while and it killed. I really give props to all of you who have had to deal with that in labor. I'm glad you're doing spinning babies. I think the hardest thing with posterior is not reclining a lot as that's all I want to do when I'm resting.

I'm trying to be open minded about everything. While I've been having intense early labor since last week (and lost a ton of plug today woo!) I am trying to be okay with the idea that I could make it to the amnio Friday or even my induction date. It's really hard to not focus a lot on the clock when I start having contractions, but I don't want to get emotionally tapped out. I've been sleeping horribly due to contractions/pressure/ICP so I am sleeping in as late as DD will let me. I also am trying to do a lot of positive affirmation type meditation to remind myself that I can and will have the birth I want again.

As for my birth plan, my big thing is to be free of time limits and to have non medicinal labor progression options (pumping, walking etc) available to me when possible. With an induction that will be tweaked a little but if we don't get to that, I just want to be able to cope as I see fit without being offered pain medication (I'd ask for it if I got to that point).
