I just dropped my 8 year old daughter off at church to go to camp for a week. She has never been away from home for this long, and I am a wreck. I know most of it is just hormones, but still it is hard. I hope this week goes by fast!!
I hope it does too. Its so hard letting go of your kids.. whether its the first day of school, first overnight, first time they go to a sitter, etc. I read about your choice for adoption with your baby, and I so admire your strength. I also wonder if your anxiety (even if just slightly there) about the adoption could be heightening your anxiety over letting your daughter go for a week? Just a thought that crossed my mind. Hang in there. She will be back before you know it![]()
I hope the week goes by fast for you! I remember loving camp when I was a kid (I went overnight for a week or two every summer for the longest time). Even though I would sometimes have twinges of home sickness, the fun I had always trumped it. I can't imagine how hard it is to have your daughter away from you, but I hope she's having a great time!
I will be going through this in August--my 7 year old wants to go to Girl Scout camp for 5 days and, although I know she'll be fine and won't hardly bat an eye about going since she's SOOO independent, I'll be a mess without her! It won't help that my DS will be at his dad's for the whole month! EEK!
I bet the week might go by a bit slowly for you since you'll be missing her, but I bet she will have the time of her life and will be so excited to be back in your arms in a few days!!!
I did find a way to email her and the camp prints off the emails and gives them to the kids at lunch time so i sent one last night. I also found their facebook page and they have been updating pictures everyday! So it really hasn't been too bad. It might get a little crazy tonight with storms and where they are at is in the danger zone, but I have to keep reminding myself that they have a better shelter than I do. So I know they will be ok!! 2 more days to go!! I think I can make it!
Yes, I actually just went and picked her up about 30 minutes ago. She had a great time. She was also with her cousin that is very close with so she didn't get too homesick. She said wanted to go back next year!!!
I'm sending my 6 and 8 yearold away for 4 days. They cant wait. I know they will love it. Maybe we will work up to the week next year..
