    Default First Appointments

I just made my first appointments and it's seeming a bit more real. Crazy!

My doctor does a nurse consult (paperwork and blood work) at 8 weeks and a dating u/s at about 10 weeks.

    The nurse consult is 5/11
    The dating US is 5/31

I am so stinking excited and so very nervous for the dating US. I always am. And I'm kind of kicking myself for not going in based off of LMP! (I'm pretty sure I O'd 1.5 weeks later than LMP would suggest, but oh well.)

So, when are your first appointments? I know some of you have already had US and appointments, when is your next?

I finally had my confirmation appointment yesterday and surprise to me she booked a dating u/s! I haven't had one before with my 2 prior pregnancies but this is a new doctor I am seeing.

I did get my bloodwork done yesterday but I get to go May 10th for the u/s and then back to doctor on May 31st for my full prenatal appointment.

My OB is the same as yours; blood work/paperwork at 8-9 wks then u/s. My first appt isn't until May 21! Ugh! Soooo far away. I am getting really excited too!!! I can't wait to hear how everything goes at yours.

I called yesterday and made an appointment. They have me going in at 8 weeks on May 25th (for everything blood work, fam history, urine although no dating u/s unless someone's dates are off or history of m/c. Because I was high risk last time, the scheduler didn't know if I'd need to go earlier but I doubt it as my condition tends to show up later on in pregnancy. I'm pumped I get to see my favorite MW who's done most of my prenatal care.

That's exciting!! Glad the appointment went well!

I plan to call next week when I hit the 8 week mark in my pregnancy. My OB does an U/S at the first visit to check the EDD. I'm nervous about going for some reason. Last time I went for an u/s is when we found out that we lost our baby. I'm fairly positive that's why I have been procrastinating on making my appointment. I'm sure I am just being a worry wort though!

Interesting that you guys all get blood work.... my OB office doesn't do that. I actually don't see what doing bloodwork really does.... you already know your pg.... HGC levels aren't really necessary unless there's an issue. Anyway.

My office just wants to see us around 8-10 weeks where they'll consult and do the dating U/S. My DH won't come to many appointments with me but I told him I want him there b.c I would be a mess if there was an issue. Ok... no more thinking like that.

With that said my first appt is Monday and I'm sooooo excited!!!!

I hear you guys about being scared for the first U/S. With DS#5 I was feeling SO good that I was certain something was going wrong. But he was healthy and happy in there. I was a nervous wreck for weeks waiting!

Kristy~ I think they do a quant HCG to check levels with perspective dates but I know the blood work is also used for other things, I just can't think of for what now. I'll have to look at my lab sheet when I get it. Oh, they look at iron, for any diseases, etc.

Oh, I got my US moved up to May 24!! Yay! I am so excited! I can't wait for all of us to get those first looks at the beans! And my DH HAS to go with me. If something were to be wrong, I would want that support in the moment.

In Canada they do prenatal blood work to confirm your blood type, your Rh factor, your immunity to Rubella (German measles) and your iron levels. Also they check for any STDs and my doctor is checking for toxoplasmosis because we have 2 indoor cats in the house.

I'm pretty sure this is what they use it for here too. And to check your levels for dates and everything.

I remember at or close to my first appointment, they started the blood work for the genetic testing that I opted for. I don't worry about anything being wrong, but I'm one of those people that likes to prepare if I can. I really only do the quad screen for the NT scan at 12 weeks and see the baby.

I'm SO excited for everyone getting early u/s's to see their beans!!!

Ok, well bloodwork is making more sense if they are looking at things other than HGC. Maybe they do a blood test and I just don't remember.
