Labor while sick
My newest giant fear. :( This whole weekend my WHOLE family has gotten a terrible flu bug. High fevers, coughing, headache, body chills, you name it! So I was rubbing my tummy with the mantra 'stay inside baby' the whole time, while coughing like a dang fool! Thank GOD baby stayed put. But I was wondering, what *would* I do if I went into labor while sick and with fever? My hubby would have had to stay home with DS2 who had a fever of 103..... Anyone know of a mama who labored while sick? I can only imagine how rough it would be. My poor tummy feels like I've done 100 situps after all the coughing I've been doing. Sheesh!

Yikes I'm sorry your whole house has been sick Marie. I have had friends who had early labor when sick, but every instance I can think of the baby backed off until mama was better, as if it somehow knew the timing would be better if mama wasn't sick. I too always worry about if DD were to get sick when DS was born and how that would go.
I hope everyone's made a full recovery soon!

Wouldn't that be the worst? I bet mamas find the strength to make it happen... hormones etc probably take over. But I imagine recovery woudl be that much harder. Plus, how would you make sure that the baby doesn't get sick?

Yeah, so far baby has been listening to my mantra. My mom works at the hospital (where I'm delivering) and said it is filled with kids with Influenza A and B! I would hate having the baby now cause I guess it's spreading like wildfire here. My biggest fear is having a Csect with all this coughing. If I *had* to have one, could they do that? I reeeeeally hope baby boy decides next week is a good time to be born.

Marie, I hope you are better soon! I can't imagine coughing while in labor. I've had a sinus infection before and that wasn't fun--couldn't hardly breath, but it seemed to clear up really quickly once baby came. Good luck!
