    Question QOTD 5/22

OK - to liven up the board I'm going to start a QOTD thread... will probably only do Mon-Fri. Looking forward to hear the responses.

QOTD: For BTDT moms, what was the one baby item that you couldn't live without? For new moms, what are you excited to get/try?

    I love QOTD

I would say I couldn't live without my swing. I know that some babies do not like them, but my DS loved it and it was my saving grace many times when I needed to put him down and he wouldn't just sleep in his bassinet or crib. He never wanted to sleep unless he was being held, right next to you, or moving so the swing was a big help those first few months. (My 2nd item would be the baby sling. It was a Moby wrap and that thing also freed up my arms and hands when I needed them for something else besides holding my baby. )

I think it might be a sound machine. He learned quickly to associate that with sleep. It worked wonders. He still uses it. Works like a charm. I also couldn't live without my diaper sprayer for the cloth dipes.

This is my item #1 and I tend to give it as gifts for any showers I go to. It was a pain in the butt to learn how to tie, but soooo comfortable and DD would snuggle in there and let me make dinner, walk the dog, whatever I needed to do.

Mine was our Baby Papasan chair. Both of my kids slept in it from birth to about 4 months. I loved that chair. It was light and very portable.

Unfortunately I gave it away a few months ago. So now I'll have to find a new one.

This is very similar to the one we had.

It really did vary between the 2 kids. One loved the bouncy chair, the other hated it and hated the swing ( but in retrospect he was one unhappy baby about everything). He to this day still gets scared of things and doesn't like swings etc. Anyways, so I loved the little baby bouncy chair that my dd would even take naps in. Interestingly enough the swing was not used as much for either of them. I guess if I had to pick one thing, it would be the pack in play with a top part for when they were just born. They would sleep in my room in that and then I always had it for when they were sick or if I was washing sheets or whatever. I highly recomend getting the pack and play fitted sheets though.

does a breast pump count?? LOL I had one with my third baby but not with my first two even though I also breastfed them. Wow, what a lifesaver that breast pump turned out to be! It allowed me so much freedom!!! I bought a used one--I know, sounds gross but I was really just buying the Medela motor and then I bought all replacement parts for under $20 at Target. So I got a $300 breast pump for about $80! Funny enough, I sold the pump for what I bought it for and now I'll be needing another one! LOL

I would have to say I have 3 items I couldnt live without: Exersaucer (he LOVED it and let me have time to do stuff and know he was safe and entertained, once he was old enough to go in it of course), white noise ( downloaded from pediasleep, totally recommend it, you can download it to your ipod and hook it up to speakers!) he still uses it, and his Lala Lamb (a toy lamb that attached to the side of his crib and plays songs and flashes lights when you press its belly). He is able to turn it on himself in the middle of the night and it instantly puts him back to sleep. I've seen him do it once, he got up on all fours and actually just headbutted the thing, LOL, and then collapsed back to sleep!!! Total life saver, especially if we are sleeping away from home!

With my Son Seth who is 4 now, I had a cd from The NeverEnding White Lights, that I listened to while I was pregnant I listened to that Cd while I delivered and it was the only thing that would put him to sleep on bad nights. He listened to it so much when he started to talk he started singing the words to all the songs and he can still remember most of the words to the whole cd. It is very relaxing music. That was a life saver for him especially when he was really fussy.
For my older daughter the boppy pillow was a lifesaver for me, she loved her boppi pillow!!
