Baby's Room

Ok, ladies. I need some opinions here please.

We are quite blessed in that we have a 4 bedroom home and only 1 child. My niece who lives with us is getting married and moving out in Nov. So that will free up the other room that is already completely painted, floored, and ready to be occupied. Bear with me, this may be kinda a long explanation, but I promise I'll get there.

1 bedroom is not usable at this point as it is still bare concrete. Its the last room in the house to be tiled. Not to mention it also has to be painted, etc. We don't have the time to do it. Too many other things on our plate. We are building Braxton a twin size loft bed with storage stairs to go in his room. This is replacing the toddler bed he still sleeps in, but barely fits in. The room he is currently in would barely fit his bare necessity stuff plus a twin bed, much less a loft one with stairs. It would be too long for any of the walls as all of his walls have either a doorway or a door that opens onto that wall. Its terrible placement of doors. And, on top of that, his room is the smallest we have. So we have decided to give him my nieces room which is larger, longer, and much better suited to actual living, especially for the bed we're building him. We are giving Aarilyn his room. It works perfectly as a nursery, as that was his nursery. Here's the problem. That room is blue. I mean COMPLETELY blue. Walls, ceiling, everything. It does have clouds painted on the ceiling to make it look like sky. And DH refuses to paint. (which to be fair I totally get. We don't have enough time to paint it, nor enough money to hire it done. Same reason the other room isn't getting done right now.) So, repainting is out of the question. I am a frilly girl person. Think ruffles, lace, frilly. I kinda have an idea of what I want to do in there, but would like to get some input of any ideas ya'll might have to make a blue room a frilly, fun, girly nursery room. We are for sure incorporating an owl, birdie theme in the frilly stuff.

I'll come back and post later what I'm thinking about now. Have to go put a kid to work really quick. Smile

Ideas anyone? I welcome Lurker's thoughts too! No guarantee to use the ideas, but at least it will get my cogs turning even if I don't use it. Wink

Oh man. I wish I could help. with the room being blue I would find it hard. You are probably gonna want to find decals that have trees or something of that sort to at least make it more neutral in there. I have been painting my new rental house- sometimes without DH (he hates painting). IDK. I'm interested in the ideas its gonna be fun Smile

Lurker...

When I was looking at room ideas on pinterest I found some really cute baby girl rooms that were blue, but accented with pinks, yellows, and greens.

Depending on the shade of blue, it could totally work for a girl. We don't know what we're having and I almost painted the room blue, but went with green instead.

i agree it depends on the blue - is it royal blue, light blue, tourqoise blue, muted blue..... It can totally work for a girls nursery... depending on the hue color, i'd go with more brighter colors - pinks and corals, oranges(pinky oranges) yellows, limish greens, WHITE!! Def. check out pintrest to get some ideas..... but you can totally girl it up. Also i'm sure you'll be able to find some nice wall decals on etsy. I girl'd up my DD's nursery with wall decals of flowers. We're also going with an owl/woodland theme in her big girl room, so i'll be getting decals again to girl it up a bit...

It is a blue that is in the middle between the two blues on Maddie's tickers. Not light, but not super dark either. It easily looks like a blue, blue sky on the ceiling. I think I'm starting to find some inspiration here. Jules, I hadn't thought about how bright the other colors need to be, but youre right. It has to be bright colors with it, b/c the blue is not at all a muted blue...it is definitely eye-popping. And I don't want the blue to drown all everything else.

Hmmmm....

This is helping...all other thoughts are welcome too!!

om my goodness, Jana - yes, bright colors will look so awesome with it.... white, pinks/corals, if you can find the right purple...kinda plumish, but bright, lime greens...these colors are out there now..... what color is the furniture?

-don't know if that link will work, but something like these colors....i call these "off colors" cuz the pink and purples, aren't like pink nad purple that you normally think of....

Yay!!!!!

Today my mom offered to make all of the baby's bedding, and matching stuff if I would go pick out and buy the material and notions for it....YAY!!!! She made my DS's and it was so much better bc it was exactly what I wanted and couldn't find in stores. It will be soooo much easier to tame that blue and make it frilly, girly if I can get exactly what's in my head instead of trying to fit someone else's stuff to it.

:woohoo: SOOOOO excited!!!! Going tomorrow to pick out fabric!!! Smile

Ooo! Lots of fun, Jana!!

My MIL went shopping for Squishy yesterday because their stores are having end-of-winter sales now. And my mom is also starting to do some sewing for Squishy. They're all very excited now that we know she's a girl Smile
