So we had a professional family / bump photoshoot today...
It was a bigger mission to get there than I thought it would be, especially since we had to take extra outfits and the dog with. We had to take 1 subway and 2 regional trains (with only 5 min between each transfer) to get there which took about 90 min, but it was loads of fun in the end and I think the photographer got some great shots but now I'm all disappointed because I just looked at their price list for prints.
They're out of their freaking minds!!!
The only reason I booked with them is because I went to the New York Baby Show back in May and they had a special offer of $50 for the session (supposedly valued at $500) which includes 1 framed print. Now I'm feeling all scammed about the whole thing because the "framed print" is only a 8 x 10 size and also they want to charge $1000 (!!!!!!) to put only 10 of the images on a flash drive. Are these people nuts??
And to top it all off we will have to travel the 90 min (1 subway & 2 trains) there and then back again to choose the picture/s.
DH thinks we could find it for more reasonable costs nearer home but I think he's delusional. The photography session alone will be $250+ and then the prints/frames will be over and above that. At this stage I'm leaning towards cancelling the follow up viewing session and writing off the $50 as experience costs.
What would you do?
Oh wow thats insane. I wouldnt pay for that. Maybe call them and talk to them it sounds totally like a scam though. Do you have a walmart portrait studio or pennys or another studio like that? Here we have them all and they offer different specials and what not. I got Trinitys pictures done at Walmart a cpl times and it wasnt over $150 and I got the cd to. I went with my brother and SIL years ago when we only had 5 kids(Sophie makes kid number 8 between us) and we got family pix with all of them and then each family and then individual pictures and I think for everything together for both families it was around $250-$300. That also included them printing them to. Id look into other studios or even finding a photography student that wants more practice. It would be cheaper. I got scammed when Sydney was a baby on some family pictures by this couple. We spend 2 hours with them taking pictures of the 4 of us together the 3 kids together the 2 girls together each of the girls with Taylor and then individual pictures. I thought they would be awesome. After it was said and done I got 6 pictures. They REFUSED to show me the rest or unaltered ones they did show me. I had the money to pay for them with me that day. They told me not to pay for the until they got a chance to go through them and what not. It took me 4-6 months to just get those 6 pictures and a release to print them. Which was crap and they got all pissy saying they did it all for free and everything. It was ahuge to do and Im leary of some people now because of it.
I really hoped to avoid using a Kmart/Walmart type studio because I loathe those "tie-dyed" backdrops and the static, slightly forced poses; we did them every year for most of my life growing up.
This was a really fun shoot in a totally white room. Bit I still they they're off their rockers to have prices like that for digital pics.
I did find a place in the city that will do 30 min shoot and you get 30 full resolution photos in disk for $500 but that's still rather expensive. I think I might ask my friend to try her hand at it...
Roxi- I would look into finding someone who has their own little business or something like that. Where in NYC are you? I have a group on my fbook I might be able to post on there and see if anyone takes pictures around your area for a better price. I would NOT pay a huge price for photos. That's crazY!
