Group B Strep??

I had my nurse appt on Monday and they collected a urine sample. I just got a call that my urine tested positive for GBS. I thought this was a swab they did towards the end of pregnancy? I remember having it done with DS and testing negative for it. The nurse didn't give any details and said I would need to take antibiotics now and then again when I'm in labor...

I just thought that was kinda weird!! Anyone else test positive for it this early on?!

Weird Caitlin! I thought and know that it's a test they do later on... Like... 34 weeks or something like that. Bizzar-oh.

Ugh! Yuck!

Thanks for the info though! So I was reading that info and it talks about all the steps you should take when collecting your urine sample. When I have my sample I didn't have to pee so I had to eeek it out... I only barely peed into the potty before peeing into the cup bc I didn't need to go and I didn't want to waste any of the pee and have to start over. Do you think this could have affected my results?

I tested positive with my daughter and it was really nothing major. I just needed to make sure that I didn't labor too long at home because I needed to start getting IV antibiotics as soon as possible before delivery. I was hooked up to an IV, but it was totally fine.

I had it with my oldest and it just meant meds while I was in labor with her which was fine cause I was in labor for 11 hours. I would think they would want to test you by swab later on when they normally do. I would call the drs office to find out if you need meds now for a possible real infection or if its nothing.

I don't ever remember getting checked for that at all with my daughter, so maybe they don't do it at all in Denmark.

I am starting antibiotics today. I'm bummed about the iv during labor bc I liked to be able to walk around and not be stuck to an iv pole. Oh well... I'll do whatever I need to do for a healthy baby. Smile

I was still able to walk around, but like you said, I had the IV pole. It wasn't a major inconvenience though. Hopefully it won't bother you either!

I also had the IV pole... i was able to walk around when i had not only the antibodtics but also pitcion....and i bounced on the ball.... so i'm sure you'll be fine. I have never heard of them testing this early....

Glad that you are getting treated and that you have such a great attitude about it. Iv poles are annoying but it'll be worth it Smile

They were probably just doing the routine culture with the first urine, sort of a while we have it might as well test it sort of thing. It should only take an hour or so during labor to get the antibiotics in, so you shouldn't be stuck with a pole the entire time.
