Default Hey you gals on GD diet....

How many carbs does the GD diet you're following say you're supposed to eat for snacks?

My dr got onto me for not eating 30-45 carbs at bedtime snack, so I upped my snacks to 30-45, but just now I got in trouble for eating more than 15-30 for snacks...

Not sure exactly what I'm doing at this point!!! :S

I am about 35 carbs. I do not eat at night so I've gotten in trouble since my morning sugars are slightly higher. What kind of snacks are you eating? Just because you are eating 15-30 carbs doesn't seem to mean you are eating the 'correct' things. I'm not really sure what the correct things are. Seems to be like they want me to eat cheese or dairy but those both do not sit well with me.

Are you eating protein with your snack? If not, that may be why they are saying something. All snacks and meals should include some type of protein.

    Good Luck!

My snacks are only to be 1 pt--15g. Def agree with it needing to include protein- I usually have a string cheese or yogurt or cottage cheese

Yes, I do protein. I guess if nothing else I'll stick to right at 30 and be safe either way? I do crackers and cheese or glass of milk and little meat, something like that, for snacks. I'm just confused bc she changes her tune on me when my blood sugars aren't just right (which mine are harder to keep in range bc I'm diabetic all the time, not just in pregnancy, and pregnancy definitely throws my system for a loop!)

Thanks ladies for your help! I wanted to see if different drs said different things w/ regards to carb counting. I guess they do. :/

Heck mine told me nothing other then to watch what I eat and test 2-5 times a day. My snacks are mostly like yogurt or string cheese or crackers and pb. Im trying to figure out a better variety of things to eat. I had to reschedule my appt to check my numbers today because my dr was at the hospital delivering someone so I rescheduled it for the 18th. lol need to call to see if I can combine the 2 appts but ill have my 3 kids which kindda sucks.

My problem is I've done all the nutritionist counseling, etc too....but I get REALLY confused trying to remember what I'm supposed to do differently and which numbers are different for me for pregnancy vs for when I'm not pregnant and still having to eat a diabetic diet. LOL Its crazy! And it also depends on what dr you go to. My fave dr. at diabetes america told me when I was TTC to just go ahead and do the GD diet and stuff so I would be used to it when I did get pg. But then she left the practice and I had to find a new dr. My new endocrinologist changed all that I was doing w/ the old dr...then I got pg and I can't remember any of it!!!

But, I do trust my MFM who is managing my diabetes during pregnancy. She saw me safely through my last pg...which was no easy feat...I had ridiculous, scary 200-300 blood sugar numbers consistently, even when taking an insulin concoction of over 200 units/day, and eating almost no carbs. It was a nightmare! My o.b. for that pg even threatened to drop me at 32 wks bc my case scared her...but thankfully she didn't!! So far, my new o.b. I have for this pg is totally leaving it up to the MFM and not touching it. That has really helped bc I'm not bouncing between two drs, two opinions, and two people changing prescriptions for my diabetes portion of care.

    Sorry that was so long!
