Working out while pg

I have a 5k next week that I haven't trained for. I hate exercising but I want to not gain 35lbs again. Is anyone working out still or starting up ? I need ideas or motivation. Lol

I am pretty much JUST walking. I was going to walk a 5k but decided it was too expensive. lol So I just walk about 30 min- 1 hr at least 2 times a week

I do about 2 miles of walking every day (~1 mile twice a day) with our dog.

I used to do about 30 min high cardio on the eliptical trainer 2-3 times a week but my doc said I have to make sure I don't let my heart rate go higher than about 135bpm and seeing as I don't have a heart rate monitor I've stopped doing that.

I am thinking I need to do something. We have a treadmill I can do some walking or take kiddo for a walk after work but he isn't keen on the stroller the older he gets. Hm.

When I told my husband tonight about our BFP he read me my rights in regards to controlling my blood sugar, overall eating habits, health, and exercise. HaHa..

We already go on frequent mile or so walks but now he has determined that we will do other exercise as well together every morning. I'm not arguing except for the whole "get out of bed" part of it. Haha

When I was pregnant with my son I went up 15lbs. I exercised but ate healthy. I could even look at meat so It was a lot of fruits veggies tofu beans nuts etc. Walking, squatting, yoga, dancing. It all helped

My DH is convinced I'm going to give myself diabetes even before I became pg. He thinks I eat way too much chocolate and not enough fruit. Seems like my taste for chocolate is decreasing tho.

I discovered yoga while pregnant with DS and absolutely love it. Just started a new class and so I'll try to go once or twice a week. Outside of that I try to walk outdoors on the weekends...but that's it...

:lurk:

Saw this post and wanted to share an article I read just this morning on the topic:

PREGNANCY MYTH #1: DON’T LET YOUR HEART RATE GET ABOVE 140 BEATS PER MINUTE | ONE FIT MOM

It WAS a recommendation in the 80's, but the ACOG has long since changed their stance and it's far healthier to remain (or even begin to be) active than it is to be a couch potato.

Thanks Jordan!!

Question: how can I tell if my temperature is rising? (other than feeling hot :p) I've already had one loss (not from exercise) and don't want to risk another if I can help it.

You're temp should steady off. My hasn't gone up since after BFP. it stayed steady.

I mean while exercising. The article said as long as your temp doesn't rise you're ok to exercise. I just wanted to know if there was any way to tell if my temp was rising besides using a thermometer...

Lurker from Nov-
I'm one of those people who gets really crabby if I don't exercise! My husband sometimes will tell me I need to go for a run and he's usually right Wink With this one, I actually got my BFP when I woke up at 2:30 am to go to the bathroom and had a half marathon later that day. At first, I was nervous about it, but figured that I had trained and it ended up being fine. I feel like I've slowed down and I usually decrease what I do when I'm pregnant. I'm now running slower and less miles (but still will go out for 3-4), but part of that is because of the ms. I also started doing more stationary biking just b/c I could tolerate it better when feeling really sick and more tired. I actually find that sometimes the only part of the day when I'm not feeling sick is when I'm exercising! With my last 2 pregnancies, I did end up decreasing quite a bit at the end b/c I get a lot of early contractions, but otherwise I don't think it caused any problems.
I did just find this article which I found interesting b/c it has some studies- Pregnant athletes: is it safe to exercise when you're pregnant?. I think a good quote from it is "There is no evidence that exercise raises body core temperature to a level likely to cause problems."
I'd say to go with your gut and stay hydrated and you should be good! If you're starting something new, walking is always a good place to start as well!
