New (again) and fah-reeking out*UPDATED W/ PICS*

Some of you ladies I know from poking around these boards for years, so :wavehello: to all you and for most of you who don't know me my name's Lisa, I'm 40 (OMG) and I'm married with 2 great kids. I've been on bcp's since DS was weaned and have had no issues. DH has been putting off the snip because he's a wuss, so bc has always been my responsibility. We are done (well, WERE done) having kids. My other pregnancies were rough and I had PTL with both, and bedrest. AF was due last Thursday, nada. Saturday I thought is was making an appearance - I just had a teeny bit of (TMI) brown stringy discharge. It lasted maybe half a day. Then I got worried because it looked implantation bleeding, so I did a FRER and it was a BFP. I did another FRER Sunday and it was a BFP. I did another FRER yesterday and it was a BFP and looks a bit darker than the first two. I did a Clearblue digi this morning and it was a bfn. Like, WTF? The 3 FRERs are all definitely positive. The second line isn't blazing bright pink, but they're definitely pink, no squinting needed. I tried to take pics this morning of the FRERs but they were all blurry in the bathroom. I will try again later. Anybody ever had multiple bfps with FRERs and then have a bfn on a digital? Are the Clearblue digitals reliable? I'm so worried because I take meds that I definitely can't take if I'm pg.

Please, tell me I'm not losing my mind. Here's the first 3 tests (sorry so huge - forgot to resize):

and the invert:

A girl on the one birth board we were on for TTC had an issue where she took a couple of those tests and got a BFP on all of them but then when she went to the Dr's it was a negative. I've been hearing a few stories on other boards similar to the FRER tests giving false positives. I think when it comes to this kind of matter I would schedule a Dr. apt and have a blood test done to see what's going on. I wish you luck and hope you get the answers you are looking for Wink

I would definitely have a blood test done if you're worried about your meds. Hope you get the answer you're hoping for, too!

digital tests are also not as sensitive so I would guess that yes you are pregnant

I've never personally had issues with digi's but I've only taken one so I don't have a lot of experience but I've been a POAS aholic for years and have never had issues with FRER's.

KUP! and I'd highly recommend a blood test

(good to see you over here! I haven't had time to be on the GDB lately.)

I did manage to take some pics when I went home for lunch and I did another FRER. I bought a 2-pack on the way home. Wink This test looks lighter, almost like a very faint pink evap (though I know evaps aren't typically pink). I'm thinking chem pg. Being on the pill my uterine lining isn't favourable, although I'm pretty sure something tried to implant, it just didn't stick. Once my camera battery is done charging I'll attempt to upload from work and post them. IDK how much there will be to see - there's not much natural light this time of year up here! Thanks everybody. If I get another bfp I'm going to make an appt for a blood test.

You're not losing your mind. Those look like BFP's to me! Those lines are pink and I can see them clearly.

Those look positive to me, too. Two possible explanations:
1) Digitals aren't as sensitive and your hcg levels were too low to show a positive digital.
2) Those are very convincing evaps. I know there were a few evaps that looked like BFPs on FRERs posted on here in the last 6 months or so.

Maybe there's a really horrible, mean and nasty batch of @#$%ed up FRERs out there making bfps out of evaps! I remember when I got pg with DS I got a bfp at 9dpo, and I did a Clearblue digi at the same time (same pee) and it was also a bfp.

I took a digi test tonight and it said negative but my blood test and first response said positive Smile I bet its just not sensitive enough for the digital test to pick it up! Your tests look just like mine Smile I would say your pregnant! Go in for a blood draw when you can oh and maybe the test today was lighter from your sample being more diluted maybe? Depending on when I test mine is darker or lighter during the day

That was my experience, too. At 11dpo I had a BFN on an IC in the AM. That night I had a kinda-sorta-there-if-you-turn-the-IC-just-right line. Bought a FRER and a digital. My FRER looked just like your middle picture (really light). I tried the digital (hey...I'd been TTC for three years with not even an evap). Digital said "Pregnant."

I scrolled down through the threads and there's a thread that says something like "My evap with a FRER" on the first page. It was AFTER the time limit though. When did yours come up? Have you peed on a thousand more sticks yet?

All my pink lines came up well within the 3 min time limit. They also continued to darken after that and are still visible today as pink lines. My feeling is that if I am pg, it's not viable. With my other kids I had blazing pink lines by about 10/11 dpo. Here I am at about 17/18 dpo (not sure b/c I have no idea if/when I ovulated since I was on bc) and the lines are so faint. I've noticed with the test windows my more obvious lines are with tests where my urine was more concentrated. You know how some windows stay nice and white and others turn yellow? My very faint bfps were with very dilute urine, I guess. But my general thought is that this egg tried to stick but didn't. No af yet, though. And yes, I peed on another FRER this morning and it was still faint but pink.

Are you using the FRER that claim results 6 days sooner? Many women have had issues with those. Also, I've read that FReR can give false results for those over 40.

Either way, I hope you can get a clear answer very soon. Good luck!

I these ones all say "Results up to 5 days sooner" Do you recall why women over 40 have reported problems with FRERs? I'm assuming it has something to do with hormones but I have no idea what.

Well, well....AF just showed!!! Yahoo IDK if it's actually AF or an early m/c, but it doesn't seem to be quite the same as my normal AF. In any event, I'm definitely not pg and couldn't be more relieved. Still a mystery about those bfps though.

Thanks to everyone who offered advice and support!

So glad you can stop wondering!

IDK why they have been giving women false positives but many women have complained about it. Most believed false + because other tests showed - results.

Well, I am glad you got the result you were looking for! I just looked at this thread now, and your tests looked just like my chemical pregnancy I had in Sept. If I hadn't been testing (and having early bloodwork). I wouldn't have ever known. My HCG was 7.1, so FRER's can pick up very little HCG. I have been TTC for almost 2 years, many more if you count the times I've actually gotten pregnant, and have never gotten an evap, and I have always used FRER. Each time a positive has been confirmed by bloodwork. I don't know anything about the whole false positive with over 40. So either it was that , or my guess would be, that you had a very early chemical pg.

Glad you are relieved anyway!

Completely forgot about the "over 40 warning" on FRER! Either way, I'm glad you don't have to worry about it now! Smile

Okay, I'm going to show my ignorance here. What is the over 40 warning for? I don't know anything about it and have actually never read the insert to FRER's so not really sure what you're talking about.

From their website FAQ:

"Q: What do I do if the result is positive (pregnant)?
A: A positive (pregnant) test result shows that the pregnancy hormone (hCG) was detected. You should see your doctor to confirm that you are pregnant. Because this test detects very low levels of hCG, some women may test positive even if they are not pregnant. For example, a study of women aged 41-55 showed that 4 out of every 100 women tested positive even though they were not pregnant. Such “false positive” results in women in this age group are generally due to a hormone called pituitary hCG. "

My vote is that they were real BFPs and it was a CP, since AF was that late. The other possibility is that you O'd later than usual, and in that case, maybe it was the hormone thing that the FRER was picking up on.
