    Red face New & Confused

    Hello,
So I am wanting other womens opinions bc I am really confused and nervous and stunned ( even though I knew pregnancy was always possible)! I have no children never been pregnant and never really had a scare until now. I went in Monday 10-10-11 for my yearly appointment and the dr was doing her duty and told me that I had a bluish cervix. So I asked why she said she only sees that in pregnant women. Well I am on the deppo shot and am always on time taking it, so a little stunned at that point. She sent me over to the hospital for a blood serum test her nurse calls me later that evening and says "well girl looks like your pregnant" (extremely stunned at this point). She told me my hcg level was a 9.2 still low meaning that it could be still very early considering I am having no symptoms besides really bad acne that started last Friday & and I have never had an acne problem. After she tells me the hcg level she babbles on about how it could be a false positive so I have to go in Thursday for another blood serum test. I am a very impatient person so this whole waiting thing just does not fly with me. And my fiancé works on the road so I am by myself at home trying to sort through this. If anyone has any advice or opinion on the hcg level thing would be greatly appreciated!!

    Thanks all

An HCG level over 5 is considered "pregnant."

Your body only produces HCG when pregnant. It's the only place the hormone comes from. The number is low though. HCG is produced after the zygote implants, and doubles approx every 24 hours. A low number like that means you most likely implanted recently. The reason they test a second time is to make sure the number doubles or more in a few days. If it does not, it could mean it's not a viable pregnancy.

I hope this helps! HCG = pregnant!

Just to clarify: non-pregnant women (and men) normally have low levels of hcg (usually < 5 although there is some variation). Hence the "cut-off" value of 5 that is usually given in determining whether a woman is pregnant.

You're pregnant, cause like pp said any hCG level over 5 is considered pregnant.

We'll just see if those numbers start doubling! Keep us posted!

I do, too! One of the college classes that I teach is Anatomy & Physiology. Another random hormone tidbit that I learned along the way is that men produce small amounts of prolactin, too. Now you have something other than pee sticks to discuss at dinner.

    I agree with pp - HCG > 5 = pg!!!

I hope you get the result you want. BTW - it is still possible to get pg on the depo shot. It's not common but does in fact happen. That's why the chances of getting pg while taking dep aren't 0.

    GL to you.
